Trump on Affirmative Action

Trump on Affirmative Action

by Roger Clegg August 17, 2015

Here’s what Donald Trump said in an interview on Sunday: “I’m fine with affirmative action. We’ve lived with it for a long time. And I lived with it for a long time. And I’ve had great relationships with lots of people.” What a silly answer. So Mr. Trump is “fine” with treating people differently — some better, some worse — on the basis of skin color, national origin, and sex. How come? Because “I’ve lived with it for a long time.” How does that make such discrimination more acceptable? Indeed, in this instance, the longer it has been around the less defensible it is, if the rationale is somehow to make up for past wrongs. And, of course, you can have “great relationships with lots of people” without discriminating against them. In fact, it might actually improve your relationships with lots of people. Sheesh.

You have to pick your fights. Trump appears to have decided that his fight is illegal immigration. He’s not going to stake a controversial position on Affirmative Action, abortion, the Equal Rights Amendment, or gay marriage. He’s going to stay on focus on illegal immigration, and not get involved in other fights.

Old article- from just one month ago? Trumbots are so blinded by his buffoonery-trumpoonery that they’d swallow any nonsense he spouts out.

Sadly, if Trump is elected, the Constitution will be left in the dust as well. But you don’t really care about that, do you? He’s your Dear Leader, whatever he does.

Well apparently the GOP is fine with it too, and since we keep re-electing the GOP, so are we.

He got 25 percent of the black vote in a single poll, which so far looks like a outlier compared to every other poll.

Yeah - who cares about the Constitution,Trump is winning!!!!!

So you think that any single POTUS is going to roll back everything that the commie left has taken many decades to achieve?

Your ignorance makes me sick.

Didn't even know AA was a pressing issue this time around, but go ahead and carry on.....

You mean like the GOP has left the Constitution in the dust?

Like the way they did when Obama’s Iran treaty was illegally approved by the senate?

That kind of leaving the Constitution in the dust?

Or the way they refuse to impeach a lawless president no matter what he does?

That the kind of dust leaving you are referring to?

Hey, if it’s good for the GOP, it’s good for anyone else.

Wasn’t a problem then, shouldn’t be a problem now.

Trump likes to talk while he's thinking

And he also responds to events as they change situations.

I could see Trump in his personal experience not having trouble with affirmative action. He's a highly-desired employer, and enjoys people, so probably is able to select the best of all ethnic groups.

I don't have trouble with Trump's ever-evolving takes on things. It's not like the others who base everything on polls, opinion groups, and who they want to impress.

Rush is (correctly) responding to the idea that conservatives should not be supporting Trump just for his position and plan on illegal immigration and amnesty.

Trump is surprising ‘experts’ who would expect conservatives to demand a more purely conservative candidate

Im thinking as Rush is reflecting on this: Conservatism as Mark Levin says, is a way of life. It’s not an ideology.

They’re thinking conservatives will only vote for a guy who has a conservative past and who has an impeccable personal life. But conservatives are not ideological they are practical

They are crazy. They think conservatives are going to hold out for me perfect?

Romney was a leftist. I voted for him but he was a leftist. He’d have ushered in Hillary.

I won’t vote for any of the GOP s leftists again

Conservatives will certainly support someone who is not purely conservative but plans on taking care of this mess of a country

Even the catechism states that, while abortion is non negotiable, tgat if the only choices are pro abortion candidates the least harmful one is the one to support Staying home is worse

Who cares if it’s a pressing issue this time around? He was asked the question, and he gave an answer that is directly contrary to Constitutional principles.

Let me ask you this - gun rights has not exactly been a pressing issue during this election cycle so far. If Trump was asked about, say, a national gun registry, and said he would be “ok with it,” would that be ok with you?

The only thing that Donald Trump can hope for, and the rest of us, is hoping he can focus on a few things that can be done to slow the Socialist Train down. It is too late to try and chart another course right now. Even Reagan was only able to slow things down. I do think it is possible that Trump can right a number of wrongs, for instance he can roll back some of those Executive Orders Obama implemented.

Actually, not true. Outlawing or limiting racial preferences have succeeded at the ballot box and in the courts. Last year, Blacks and Hispanics tried to get affirmative action thru the CA legislature. It was blocked by the Dem Asian legislators.

Trump is no conservative. He stands for Trump. It’s a mystery why FR RINO haters love him so. You won’t once he’s elected.

Of course it’s a problem when the GOPe leaves the Constitution in the dust. Of course it’s a problem when Obama has shredded the Constitution.

That doesn’t make it OK to support an anti-Constitutional candidate.

What on earth makes you think that Trump WANTS to "slow the Socialist Train down"?

You mean like the Candy Cowley style attacks? You're all for tht I guess.

If Trump was asked about, say, a national gun registry, and said he would be “ok with it,” would that be ok with you?

No, I would not be okay with that, but then again, it's a hypothetical question and he has never said that.

I can't believe a supposed conservative would be here supporting the media and their "so when did you stop beating your wife" tactics.

Asking him his position on an issue that has been a major political topic in this country for decades (even if it is not as pressing right now) is not a Candy Crowley-style “when did you stop beating your wife” question. That’s absurd.

Just saying we will deport more than 11 million illegals without stating how reduces rhetoric to the level of the fanciful. How does one identify, locate, detain (where and how?) and then, including families with children and grandchildren, ship them off to over 20 different nations using jumbo jets and ships (assuming these nations will take them in the first place) and of course, despite a guaranteed rainfall of injunctions from the federal courts aided by media and local church congregations.

But somehow all other issues from affirmative action, to gay marriage, to unions, must all be swept under the rug.

This folks is not the stuff of serious contenders for the conservative republican mantle.

I would guess, even if it can be done, at least one generation to stop the train and another three generation to get it back to where it started.

But hey, why let logic get in the way of bashing a candidate you don't support in hopes that some how that will elevate the one you do support (I don't mean you).

Or we could have a violent revolution...that's pretty much the only alternative.
