Trump Leads GOP Presidential Field in New National Poll: He's followed by Bush, Walker, and Cruz.

Donald Trump is taking hits from Democrats and top Republicans officials for his comments—but the controversy hasn't knocked him from the top of national field among Republican primary voters, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Trump comes in as the first choice of 17 percent of likely GOP primary voters in the latest national poll, conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University. His closest competitor is Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 14 percent. After Bush, it's Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (8 percent), Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas (6 percent), Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida (5 percent), neurosurgeon Ben Carson, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (4 percent each), and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (3 percent).

The rest of the candidates, who received less than 2 percent support, include Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, businesswoman Carly Fiorina, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and former New York Gov. George Pataki.

The poll also looks at a scenario that national Democrats contemplate with glee: a Trump-Clinton general election, with Hillary Clinton coming out far ahead. In a theoretical matchup, the GOP business tycoon trails Clinton by 17 points, 51 percent to 34 percent.

The poll surveyed 1,000 adults, including 349 likely Republican primary voters, from July 9-12. The general-election numbers have a margin of error or +/- 3 percentage points; the GOP primary numbers have a margin of error of +/- 5.25 percentage points.

Apologize for what?! Stating a fact, namely that illegal Mexican aliens commit a lot of crime compared to the population at large?

Why is that so controversial? Why is stating, "The sky is blue today" controversial?

Trump told Howie, "The Mayor has to apologize to Mr. Trump".

John Kerry was able to complete a nuke deal with Iran, that is one accomplishment more that Hillery ever got while SOS. When the track record becomes an issue this country will realize Hillery is a do nothing government sponge that only gives a crap about how much money she can extort.

Can’t you imagine a one on one with the mayor and The Donald. Same dialogue. Mayor stuttering at end.

Scott Walker can not win White House without Florida, that is why he wants Marco.

Yap, running a multi-national, multi-faceted business requires lot of talent. All other candidates COMBINED do not have that kind of experience or talent.

Can you imagine Trump against Clinton in a debate. He would know more about the Clinton Laundry and Benghazi than she would.

Half way through she will walk off mumbling something about her sweater, I need my sweater, I need my...

Cruz supporters are loyal. We stick with our guy.

Agree. But I am very thankful for Trump. He talks truth and right on point. American politics, from the lowest level to Washington DC, is so saturated with corruption and anti-American that we may never survive. Our only hope is Cruz. Trump should be an important part of Cruz's Administration.

Don’t underestimate the effect of a stoutly partisan MSM moderator and an earpiece with Sid Blumenthal coaching.

“More good news for Cruz.
Among the top 8 only Cruz and Trump are polling better than their RCP averages. That’s true of the just released Monmouth poll as well.
What this tells me is that Trump is leaching votes from virtually every candidate except Cruz.
Cruz supporters are loyal. We stick with our guy.”

No, what it means is that Trump and Cruz are both fighters, and in many ways think alike politically. They are in some senses kindred souls having the same flak flung at them.

Yes the Boston Mayor is a weenie. Everyone is so PC their more nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Yes it is worth a LOL, Trump has got them all on the run. He has bought fun back to Politics, and the source of his comedy is not polite, he is skewering the Enemamedia, The E-GOP and all it's hacks and lackey's and all their panties are in a wad. I am not laughing with them, I am laughing at them.
