Jeb Bush: If we’re going to grow the economy, people should work longer hours
Hot Air ^ | July 9, 2015 | Allahpundit

It’s clear in context what he meant and ABC did a creditable job in the clip below backing him up with numbers, but a damaging soundbite is halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on.

“My aspiration for the country and I believe we can achieve it, is 4 percent growth as far as the eye can see. Which means we have to be a lot more productive, workforce participation has to rise from its all-time modern lows. It means that people need to work longer hours” and, through their productivity, gain more income for their families. That’s the only way we’re going to get out of this rut that we’re in.”

Already the Democratic National Committee has pounced, releasing a statement that calls his remarks “easily one of the most out-of-touch comments we’ve heard so far this cycle,” adding that Bush would not fight for the middle class as president.

In a statement, a Bush aide clarified that he was referring to the underemployed and part-time workers: “Under President Obama, we have the lowest workforce participation rate since 1977, and too many Americans are falling behind. Only Washington Democrats could be out-of-touch enough to criticize giving more Americans the ability to work, earn a paycheck, and make ends meet.”(continued)

You have to realize the Bushes are not the most articulate people in the world. A good reason for him not to be the candidate.

What’s this fascination with Donald Trump anyway?

He's throwing us red meat on immigration. That will win him adulation from some, no matter what a liberal clown he is otherwise.

Bush later sought to clarify what his remarks — which he made in an interview with the New Hampshire Union-Leader — during a town hall event in Hudson, New Hampshire, later on Wednesday, explaining that he was referring to Americans who aren’t working full-time.

“You can take it out of context all you want, but high sustained growth means people work 40 hours rather than 30 hours and that by our success they have disposable income for their families to decide how they want to spend it rather than standing in line and being dependent upon government,” Bush said.

I think he meant working a 40 hour week rather than the 30 hours week that conforms to Obamacare.

Donald Trump is in this race to clear a path for Hillary Clinton. He knows he will not win the nomination, so he will run 3rd party.

I think he is saying is that American workers are too well paid and need to accept a pay cut, so they can work longer hours.

That's hardly a surprise, given that US workers compete against Chinese workers on the world market. The Chinese are working long hours for a bowl of rice. US workers must do the same to match their labor costs. That's what happens when globalists' dreams become reality.

There are so many unemployed in the USA simply because they cannot compete with low prices and acceptable quality of Asian products. A US company would have to pay so much in taxes and fees and payroll that their product typically costs 10x more than the competition. The math just doesn't work out; that's why so many businesses are closing.

Half the workforce is unemployed and he wants us to work longer hours? Idiot!!!

Trunp is the only candidate who understands that our economic problems is caused by our so-called free trade deals.

Certain key words are, and should be red warning lights.

“Productivity”. Why is this *ever* mentioned to anybody who works for a living? Productivity is *not* their friend, but their enemy. It means getting more work out of employees for the same wage, or perhaps even lower wages.

“Productivity” means firing Americans and hiring foreigners on H1-B visas. Foreigners who will not get raises or promotions, will not accumulate seniority, and can be discarded like used bathroom tissue when no longer wanted.

“Productivity” also means importing illegal aliens to work sub-minimum wage jobs, or being paid under the table.

More than anything else, “productivity” feeds into “free markets”, that only seem to benefit foreign nations at our expense. And make multinational companies with zero loyalty to America lots of money at the expense of American companies.
