Ralph Nader: Trump for President? Giving GOP nightmares
The New Haven Register ^ | June 21, 2015 | Ralph Nader

Posted on 06/21/2015 3:20:47 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Donald Trump, the bombastic builder of Trump towers and Trump gambling casinos, is moving from his reality TV show to the theater of presidential elections.

If he survives the first three months of mass media drubbing him and his notorious affliction of ‘leaving no impulsive opinion behind,’ he’s going to be trouble for the other fifteen or so Republican presidential candidates.

Already the commentators have derided his massive egotitis – he said “I” 195 times in his announcement speech, not counting the 28 times he said “my” or “mine” or the 22 mentions of “me.”

But Trump revels in self-promotion and, as one commentator wrote, “plays the media like a harp.”

If he is still campaigning by Labor Day, watch out Republicans! He will be a big nightmare for Republican contenders – from Jeb Bush to Ted Cruz, from John Kasich to Scott Walker.

Here are some reasons why:

Many American voters love to vote for very rich candidates, whether they are Republicans or Democrats. They believe they can’t be bought. They love business success stories. And being very rich, the media keeps the very rich candidates in the limelight, as do the national polls.

He can pay for his own media. Remember billionaire Ross Perot and his purchase of national television to show his charts on deficits. People laughed.

But Mr. Perot got 19 million votes in 1992, even after dropping out of the campaign in the summer and being labeled a conspiracy theorist before again becoming a candidate in the fall![continued]

I’ll believe it when he files his paperwork (all of it!), and not until.

“I”s per minute.

Nothing about the man is believable save for my tagline and the fact that he did say he wants to ban guns.

Ralph Nader is delusional...

8 to 10 of the field will be gone after the first debates or before...

Americans have a notoriously short attention span...

Trump is purely entertain value for many and his shtick will get old after a while...

Unless he actually puts forth actual serious policy positions for his president campaign...

"I am rich and you are a loser" isn't a policy...

GOP deserves their little ‘nightmares’ along with the demoRats and sychophant Left stream media. Nightmares all-— if Trump supplies the fireworks then so be it. Our faith in govt and pols is just about Zero anyway. Pun intended.

I can't explain it, but suddenly The Rug looks a lot more credible as a candidate. Nader, OTOH, remains unsafe no matter how much speed I take. Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.

Strange as it is, his appearance is his business. I’m more concerned with the fact that he has said he identifies more as a democRAT, he wants to ban guns and extend waiting periods to buy them and he donates large to the Clintons and other high profile and very far left liberal democRATs. How any conservative could be swayed into supporting anyone like that I don’t know. I just don’t get it. If anyone other than Donald Trump had that record they would be soundly rejected. But Trump does it and people go ga ga for him. Strange.

I think it is his pro-American stances, he’s pretty much the only one standing with the citizens on the invasion.
He’s the only one against the trade pact.

Since the day he announced you are the only one who has said that to me. So I don't think so.

Why would they be willing to overlook his liberal past and his saying he is a democRAT in favor of one issue they failed to even mention?

I think everyone is getting a bit sick of the autocratic top down way of doing things. I don’t think for a moment Trump is really running, he’s just there to give an establishment candidate a good running start by soaking up populist support at a time when it could actually pose an existential threat to the democrats.

Right? So Obama gets his “trade” deal, the Republicans get Jeb! or some suitable replacement and the blame, and unless Sanders gets going, the voters will get to choose between uniparty candidates Thing 1 and Thing 2.

The citizens are pretty sick of the invasion and all the obfuscation about “immigration”. I’m not a Trump fan, but he’s going to get traction with his rhetoric about building a wall and enforcing the laws.

Sure he’ll get traction. And he’ll sound great (or vaguely unhinged) right up until the window of opportunity closes for Republicans to capture the populist base, independents, and even a number of democrats, at which time he will drop out.

Very entertaining. The Donald will make Carly and the Monotones more interesting and will have a net positive effect. That he is causing uniparty bootlickers some angst is just a side benefit

Trump is crushing the social media scene, with Facebook reporting that within 24 hours after tossing his hat in the ring, “3.4 million people shared information about Trump 6.4 million times,” making him tops among all Republican contenders.” Trump was also “the most searched GOPer in every state the day of his announcement, and his `search interest’—percentage of national queries for the hour after he announced—was 87 percent.”

As long as he makes the others answer questions he has, more power to him.

On the flip side, he must now answer the questions they have.

Rock On.

I’ll believe it when he files his paperwork (all of it!), and not until.

All he needs to file is a Statement of Candidacy (FEC Form 2) and he hasn't even done that yet.

2016 Presidential Form 2 Filers

Trump isn't going to run.
