TUSCALOOSA, Ala. U.S. Senator and Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz (R-Tx.) will deliver the keynote address at an upcoming event hosted by the Tuscaloosa Republican Party, according to Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill.
I am very excited to announce that Ted Cruz will be the keynote speaker at the annual Lincoln-Reagan Dinner at The Zone in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Tuesday, August 25, Merrill told Yellowhammer.
The Tuscaloosa GOPs Lincoln-Reagan Dinner has become one of Alabamas most widely-attended political events in recent years, attracting nationally-known speakers including top George W. Bush advisor Karl Rove and former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. With Cruzs presidential campaign in full swing, he will undoubtedly draw another capacity crowd to the dinner.
Before being elected to the Senate in 2012, Cruz was Solicitor General of Texas, the States chief lawyer before the U.S. Supreme Court. Serving under then-Attorney General, now Governor Greg Abbott, Cruz was the nations youngest Solicitor General, the longest serving Solicitor General in Texas, and the first Hispanic Solicitor General of Texas.
In private practice in Houston, Cruz spent five years as a partner at one of the nations largest law firms, where he led the firms U.S. Supreme Court and national Appellate Litigation practice. He has authored more than 80 U.S. Supreme Court briefs and argued 43 oral arguments, including nine before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Since becoming the 34th U.S. Senator from Texas, Cruz has established himself as a conservative firebrand, taking on members of both parties in high-profile fights in the Senate.
He announced in late March that he would seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2016.
What is the promise of America? Cruz asked rhetorically during his announcement speech at Liberty University. The revolutionary idea that this country was founded upon, which is that our rights dont come from man. They come from God Almighty.

It must kill them to have something called a Lincoln-Reagan Dinner down there in Alabama.
It may be my imagination but it seems Cruz is the Key Note Speaker at most of these largest of events, it makes good sense that he would be, he knows what he believes and does not back down from anything because it would be politically expedient to do so, he is most trustworthy regardless of whether or not his position is popular on any given issue.
CRUZ... 2016!
“...It must kill them to have something called a Lincoln-Reagan Dinner down there in Alabama...”
I would just call it a Reagan Dinner over in this part of Alabama.
But Reagan? I think all the southern states voted for him.
Wouldn’t it be great to see another 48 state landslide?!
Yes, I have said and thought the same thing. Why, if the “polls” are showing Cruz so far down and WHY if all of his support is gone after TPA, is he still the person EVERYONE wants as a keynote Speaker?
It is because he is winning. Each of these events gets him better known. HE will expand the map even further. This is why the trolls fear him.
To each their own.
I'll settle for 270.
Me, too on the 270. It would just be encouraging to see that kind of support for a Conservative again.
Once Cruz starts kicking ass in these debates and scrubs like Carson and Rubio start making mistakes we’re going to see him spike up the polls JMO.
I doubt we'll ever see that again. The country is too divided and I don't see anyone who can bring it together like Reagan did.
It’s sad. A few more Presidents like Obama and states will start seceding again.
I tend to agree...with one difference. I don’t believe Cruz isn’t doing well in the polls.
He wins EVERY Conservative straw poll...and we vote. People want him to keynote every event...nobody else.
He has raised a ton of money.
I think things will be fine.
From God’s lips to your ears.
