Now that Harry Reid has announced his retirement from the U.S. Senate, theres no shortage of elected officials interested in the job. But Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Beers wont be one of them.
Beers, a fiscal conservative who announced his candidacy more than a year ago, has decided not to run in 2016.
When I announced my candidacy more than a year ago, Harry Reid was actively running for re-election and I was the only Republican office holder in the state with the courage to run against him, Beers said in a message on his website early Monday evening. His policies were so bad for Nevada, and for America, that I had decided to step up.
But its also true that other Republicans, including Rep. Joe Heck, are said to be much more interested in running now that Reid wont be in the opposite corner.
For his part, Beers spent six years in the Nevada Assembly and has been a fiscally tightfisted member of the city council. Hes also been an outspoken critic of the plan to use tax dollars to help construct a $200 million soccer stadium complex downtown. The plan failed.
According to his website, He consistently describes being a councilman as the most fun job Ive ever had.
But wouldnt even the long-shot chance to hold a seat in the U.S. Senate have been even more fun?
Again from the website: My goal was to stop Harry Reid from another term and I have accomplished that goal. The Nevada Republican Party will have no problem recruiting from our deep bench to find someone to run for the open seat and work to reign in Washington. Meanwhile, I will be most effective serving the people of Las Vegas.

I can read between the lines and it’s clear to me that Congressman Joe Heck will be running. The tone of this article indicates that Beers might not run for Congress to succeed Heck, so look for state Senator Michael Robinson to be the nominee for Congress in the event of a Heck Senate candidacy.
No Beers for Senate?
Indeed, what the Heck?
So is he admitting to giving Hairy the beating of his life???
I was wholeheartedly supporting Bob. He’s the best. Heck is just okay.
I will be working with a candidate running for Heck’s seat, but this needs to be private for now.
I can tell you Robeson is a disaster and there is a very good alternative.
It better not be Sharron Angle.
Nope, very smart gutsy fighter. I wrote Reid’s only bio, as you know, and Sharon didn’t use one lick of it. Nope, I don’t back RINOs and I don’t back people without intestinal fortitude to go for the throat.
Here hold.muh beer,........
Well then lets buy Beers a beer!
Let us know who it is when you’re able to reveal it.
I will. Are you in Vegas? There might be some meetings coming up to discuss things. This isn’t the first campaign for this candidate, so it has a chance. But I can’t blab on the Internet.
Robeson is just a RINO lobbyist, a lot of people won’t vote for him.
No, I’m in Tennessee.
Denny.
I’m going to venture a guess this is the candidate you’re working for:

Tell me if I’m wrong.
Annette Teijeiro. She’s a doctor, no RINO, been here most of her life. Ran against Dina Titus. Lots smarter than Tarkanian, Matthews, Roberson.
Oh, OK. Yeah, she had already announced, so I thought it might’ve been some else. Well, good luck with her candidacy.
A Hispanic woman would be good from that district. IF she’s up to the task of winning in November.
