GOP debate rules could reignite questions about Cruz birthplace

Not surprisingly, the GOP presidential debates announced last week will be open only to candidates who can legally serve as president.
That will make Fox News and CNN the first arbiters of Canada-born Ted Cruzs eligibility. By putting him on stage, they will implicitly be granting a seal of approval to the only contender born outside the U.S.
The U.S. Constitution says a president has to be a natural-born citizen. Fox and CNN both listed Article II, Section 1 among the requirements for would-be debaters. Its inconceivable that either network would invoke that requirement to shut out the Texas senator.
But there are only 10 berths at each debate. Its not so hard to imagine a candidate who doesnt make the cut heading to court to say, Hang on a second, that guy isnt even a natural-born American.
Cruz aides shrug off the possibility.
It would be an interesting spectacle, but I dont think it has anything to do with the legal precedent thats been set and accepted, said Rick Tyler...

Both of the last Solicitors General of the United States say he's qualified, as do experts at many major law schools.

Bambi set precedent, no one should ever question a child born to a US mom no matter where born.

There has been no resolution of this issue by SCOTUS. It needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Its inconceivable that either network would invoke that requirement to shut out the Texas senator. Unless, of course, he's doing well and threatening their chosen nominee.

After the POS that is Obama, I would elect a Martian if I thought he loved our country and Constitution.
The left can pound sand. I am a big “birther”, but I was mostly concerned with knowing who the #$%# Obama really is. We know who Cruz is. He hasn’t hidden an iota.

Under the law in effect when Obama was born, his 18 year old mother was one year too young to have conveyed her citizenship to her son, IF he was born outside the United States.
Cruz's mother apparently had no similar problem with conveying her citizenship to her son, no matter where he was born, but she should release her own long form birth certificate ASAP just to avoid unnecessary questions.

Its not so hard to imagine a candidate who doesnt make the cut heading to court to say, Hang on a second, that guy isnt even a natural-born American. Any candidate saying that would instantly discredit himself. I would welcome it. We need to thin the herd.

Best answer. Thanks. I really do hope that Cruz's mother will release her long form soon. I assume that Ted was born a U.S. citizen, but just as with Obama, when legal proof is so easy to obtain, we shouldn't have to settle for "assume."
