Supporters deserting Rand Paul for Ted Cruz (Including key people)

<>Politico writes that Rand Paul is losing support among key followers.

One of the most prominent defectors is Drew Ivers, chairman of Ron Paul’s 2012 Iowa campaign, who says he will not endorse Rand Paul for president. On Tuesday, three members of Iowa’s Ron Paul-aligned Liberty movement — state Sen. Jason Shultz and former Iowa Republican Party central committee members Chad Steenhoek and Joel Kurtinitis — announced the same, adding that they will support Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.

Ivers, who had dinner with Rand Paul in August, said the Kentucky senator has abandoned many of the stances that made Ivers loyal to his father.

“He’s moderating on most of them, not taking a real clear stance on a number of them,” said Ivers. “The strategy of sending a blended message is one that has risk.”

An internal poll conducted last month by Liberty Iowa of Ron Paul’s delegates to the 2012 Iowa Republican Convention — the vanguard of his Hawkeye State loyalists — found that Rand Paul is still the preferred choice by a wide margin. But there are signs of erosion: less than 70 percent are leaning Rand Paul’s way in 2016, according to a person with knowledge of the polling who was not authorized to discuss it. Cruz was the group’s second-favorite candidate, with support in the high single digits, followed by Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker....

I already gave him money, but I am beginning to believe that Ted might actually have a shot at thwarting the GOP-wing of the Democrat party in anointing one of their own.

I’m not so sure I’d want anyone who has worked on Rand Paul’s campaign on my team. Their track record isn’t so stellar.

Cruz could use the support of Paul supporters.

Has sanity decended on these people finally? The Pauls are pretty good on most domestic issues, at least they tend to sound sane on them. But when the get off our shores they show they are nuts. Isolationism stopped working in 1812.

It doesn’t say that they’re joining his campaign, just supporting him.

Rand “Flipper” Paul.

Yeah. When I read the headline the first thing I thought was "Good. Rand is all over the place."

It's hard to tell where he stands on anything. He seems to change his "core beliefs" by the hour!

That might be why he announced so early. More time to gather funds, and network. Also, everyone will be watching and picking at his every word. I’ve seen Cruz enough and read enough to know that even some Liberal leaning fence sitters will welcome him. He is a breath of fresh air, and is exactly what the country needs.

Not afraid to call a spade a spade.

Not afraid to be honest, and stand in his principles.

There is no other prospect with half of his qualities, and what I believe are skills that could be used to great effectiveness in a leadership position. The man is all American.

Ted is the whole reason the GOP-wing of the Democrat party had Jethro start the campaign season a year early. They are peeing in their panties over him.

Well, he can use the support from all corners. I reckon I misinterpreted the excerpt.

Apologies.

Yes, he is. And I’m conservative with a (small) libertarian streak. No way can I get behind Paul.

The United State has never been an isolationist nation in its history. The U.S. has gotten involved internationally if it needed to. The isolationist mantra is one sung by the neo cons and the globalists.

We need a whole lot more isolation. Not as much as the Paul’s advocate, but a LOT more. We are in a state of constant war for an unprecedented length of time. We are playing with the internal politics of Egypt, Ukraine, Syria, Libya, all over sub Saharan Africa. We have tried to directly influence elections in Russia, France, Australia, and most recently Israel.

It’s a source of a lot of our bad acts in the world. While the national treasure the USS Olympia is facing being made into a reef got want of a 10 million dollar dry dock visit, we drop hundreds of billions on the jawas.... Gratis.

No, we need to kick some serious ass when we go to fight. Commanders tieing the hands and setting suicidal rules of engagement don’t work.

When you carry a big stick to battle you need to use it. We are fighting savages, when we deal with them as such this “war” won’t last long. I mean you kill every last one! Any left will scurry back into their caves for another 700 years.
