Romney was not the problem
The Daily Caller ^ | November 21, 2012 | Ann Coulter

Small minds always leap to the answers given the last time around, which is probably why Maxine Waters keeps getting re-elected. But the last time is not necessarily the same as this time. A terrorist attack is not the same as the Cold War, a war in Afghanistan is not the same as a war in Iraq, and Mitt Romney is not the same as John McCain or Bob Dole.

But since the election, many conservatives seem to be coalescing around the explanation for our defeat given by Jenny Beth Martin of the Tea Party Patriots, who said: “What we got was a weak, moderate candidate handpicked by the Beltway elites and country club establishment wing of the Republican Party. The presidential loss is unequivocally on them.”

There was also the seven months of primaries, during which Romney got more votes than the rest of the field combined. So there’s that. Moreover, the idea that Mitt Romney was “a weak, moderate candidate” is preposterous...

Romney was not the problem. He was, however representative and emblematic of, the problem. The Republcian Party is organized with the purpose of giving Nominations to deserving bobdoles of which it has a tremendous backlog. There is no ideology or principle beyond that.

The average moron in this country didn’t interpret it that way, they don’t think like “the market” does, they believe what the media tells them.

Exactly. You can run the most effective, efficient campaign on the planet, but if you fail to connect with a strong principled message from a candidate that the electorate is hungry for- you still lose.

The briefly tolerated Reagan, because he showed he can win, but it was right back to Business As Usual, when his two terms were up.

Didn’t love Romney as my favorite choice, but he painted and excellent contrast to Obama and the people voted for Santa Clause Obama.
Romney wasn’t perfect, but I know of few candidates who are.

Keep in mind even Ronald Reagan could not make Governor in CA at this time.
The people are different.
We are IMO seeing 40 years or more of the effect of give-aways, growing government employment, brainwashing by union teachers and allowing grade school dropouts from outside our nation into our country and on our dole demanding more.

We had much greater issues than Romney IMO.

This was not a failure on the Republican/conservative side outside of those committing suicide who did not vote.

Romney wasn’t hip or cool. SO what? I don’t care if my president is hip or cool.

Swing voters often vote their gut feelings. Romney failed to connect with them. And the trick is NOT to pretend you are a Democrat-lite. Ask Bob Dole. Romney apparently thought he could just simply claim he is a regular guy - when he is not. He could not relate to a middle-class person trying hard to stay in the middle class. People saw in him, right or wrong, the guy who swoops down on a company and triggers layoffs. He really was the wrong candidate for this election on so many levels.

The GOP wins when it runs anti-elitists, or at least men or women that come across as such. Reagan was a non-Ivy leaguer. Bush may have been a third-generation blueblood, but he lived the life of a guy whose idea of high cusine was a cheeseburger and whose idea of fun was clearing brush. Palin (the only thing that gave McCain a fighting chance) was a blue-collar gal and a true reformer. Romney could never shake the image of the oily MBA born into privilege that you hope is never let anywhere near the reigns of the division you work in.

1 in 5 residents of US are now on FREE Medicaid
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
PLUS all your listed FREE’s....

However, the real BAD GUY here is us that draw SS. AFTER toiling in the work place for decades and being forced to pay into a system that we probably didn’t really like anyway, just another tax under a different ruse.
When ‘they’ bashed us with SS Tax, ‘they’ came along and invented Medicare - FORCING - us to back that, again when those that paid into it want to ‘use’ it, ‘they’ are the BAD GUY also....
I don’t use MEDICARE, as I am in the VA ‘system’ but, then again that was earned in another lifetime, while drawing substandard pay and ‘worked - well on call’ 24/7.

So, in a nutshell, the problem is Legitimate SS drawers, Legitimate Medicaid drawers, Legitimate Militay/Govt pensions, while the FREELOADERS and UNDERACHIEVERS are to be pitied....

BIZARRO WORLD for sure.

I agree with Ann’s facts and partially her reasoning, but I think there is more to it. Obama had a better strategy for getting elected period.

He could target his voters with superior data and call them out, specifically. He also had a better ground game to double down on shenanigans.

I believe given the same marketing strategy Romney could have won.... even overcoming the obvious buying of votes Obama did with our tax money.

If we listen to the libs and the media crow, this entire election was about a war on women.

No such war existed, but they made it stick.

Obama whipped up base emotional fear, the fear that Romney would actually ask folks to have some responsibility in life and have responsibility to society.

Romney was not the boogieman.
Obama is a Charismatic, I can’t explain that.
It’s an enigma.
Obama could crap on an extended hand and the sheeple are happy with a hot hand out.

He raped the country 4 ways in an instant, and the people said “I got Obama phone! We all got Obama phone!”

Never mind that Bush started that program, never mind that Obama is shoveling money out to the big banks while he demonizes the big banks etc etc etc..

I can’t explain it but there it is, and I don’t blame Romney.

I thought that people voted their pocketbooks?! WRONG! We’ll suffer unemployment, high gasoline and food prices, death panels, but we can’t vote out a nice black man who had suffered so much because of slavery and Jim Crow.

“Only after he had clinched. For most of the time, he was getting 35 percent or so.”

In Virginia Ron Paul took 40% since Newt was not on the ballot. Folks were clearly not enthused and tried to convey the message.

Obama the magnanimous is probably sipping $2k the bottle cognac and eating waygu beef at this very moment.

Mitt gives 30% of his earning to charity and Mitt was the boogieman.

Go figure...

Romney was not the problem, Ann is correct, but he could have lost while exposing the Communist Muslim, even if he had lost by a higher margin, some lesson might have been learned by the ignorant voters, some issues might have been forced on the MSM. But Romney played not to lose, played a nice guy, whom he could not have been in the past facing the realities of the mismanaged corporations that his firm was taking over.

Because of massive voter fraud that the dims now have down to a science and the fact that the moochers, looters and inner city tribal parasites now outnumber the producers, no Republican could ever win. You cannot beat Santa Claus.
