ACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) California has reached an all-time high of 18.2 million registered voters, while the number of registered Republicans has fallen below 30 percent, signaling a worrisome decline for the state's minority party, officials said Friday.
In its final update before Tuesday's general election, the secretary of state's office said the number of registered voters has increased by 950,000 since the 2008 presidential contest. Officials attribute that surge in part to the state's new online registration system, which helped many young, Democratic-leaning Californians sign up to vote this fall.
That system was seen as a threat to the California Republican Party, which has struggled to retain members, let alone add them. The secretary of state announced that Republicans now make up 29.3 percent of the state's electorate, compared with 31.4 percent in 2008.
This appears to be the lowest ebb for the party since records have been available.

“...a democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largesse out of the public treasury. From that moment on the majority, he said, always vote for the candidate promising the most benefits from the treasury with the result that democracy always collpases over a loose fiscal policy, always to be followed by a dictatorship.”

Maybe so, but personally I think they’re doing the rest of us a favor. Other areas of this country have flourished because they’ve been able to attract businesses from California without having to deal with the excess baggage of a dysfunctional socio-economic system that is left behind. And even if those new arrivals in California have no cultural attachment (whatever that means) to the rest of the U.S., they still represent a huge customer base for the businesses that have relocated elsewhere.
The Detroitification of California continues.
In 40 years how many ruins will the state have?
Don't be fooled by the Pollyannas and frauds who advertise the betrayers running the Dem party are solely responsible for wide open, unabated, unreformed and lawless immigration.
When faced with facts, they run for the tall grass.
It will be interesting to see if 29.3% of the electorate will pay 100% of the taxes. Without conservatives to provide the money for liberals to spend, they run out pretty quick.
“the missing California GOPers are in Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Texas and other points east; they were among the creators and producers who left the state due to its uber-Liberal business bashing policies”
California has an almost $2 trillion GDP...that’s a lot of producing. More than Idaho, Utah, Arizona and Texas combined. And they don’t seem to be slowing down as their GDP is going up over 3% a year, 10th in the nation. They are quickly turning into Sweden with little Mexico Cities spread sporadically along the coast but you can’t say they aren’t producing.
I’m with you that they are a a liberal cesspool but when a state out-produces more than 185 out of 193 UN recognized countries and do so at an annualized growth rate over 3%, it’s quite a stretch to say they are losing creators and producers.
“How can a state that has lost so many people have the highest number of registered voters than before? Are they illegals?”
Yes. I work and live in Hollywood. If you’re a Pubbie’, you go into hiding. My favorite answer to whomever asks me for my political affiliation is...
“I’m not a Republicans but I would rather shoot my brains out than turn into an idiot liberal.” And I make sure liberals are within hearing distance. Of course, I don’t say that work..only when I’m in a civilian area.
CA is the economic powerhouse of the U.S. Even when run by socialist and government control freaks.
Given this fact, it begs the question...What’s that say about other states, who’s economies pales in comparison, as the loud mouths in other states bark from the sidelines?
“I would like to see a slow down of Federal dollars flowing into California. As on of the most liberal states fiscal wise, the rest of the U.S shouldnt be subsidizing dubious California subsidy programs.
If they [Californias] want to fund illegal aliens work, school, medical and other social programs, let it come from their own general tax revenues.”
California is actually one of the highest (7th) in the nation that pays more federal taxes than they receive back in federal funds. For every dollar they send to Washington, they only get .78 cents back. They spend almost 1/4 of their GDP on programs for residents in other states.

This is going to confuse those who are unable to put together a critical thought.
I suspect that the Reconquista will turn out to be less kind to the would be Elitists than they expect.
They are now independents/decline to state.
If Romney loses, I will be too!
BTW, the elitist own the east coast, NY etc. They own the jets the celebrities on the west cost rent.
job growth in the private sector in California had stalled BEFORE the financial crisis of 2008 and in spite of the housing boom; business people leave, illegal immigrants arrive; some towns in the Inland Empire area have illegal immigrant majorities in the local K-12 schools, many whose parents are working on the cash economy for legal Mexicans employing them and property tax revenues and values keep declining;
the only thing keeping some people I know there from leaving is their homes are too far under water
China’s state-capitalist economny is growing too; I wouldn’t move there.
er west coast too...
The “surge of young people” registering as Demonrats the illegals Bammy has been playing with.
BTW wuli, many of this Hispanics who moved into areas formally owned or rented by blacks, are pretty hard working folks. For the past 10 years or so there is and has been a major move by many blacks from the west coast to states eastbound and southbound. I am able to provide stats.
Yes, it wouldn’t be fit nicely into the prevalent freeper logic would it?
As much as I despise many California values, there’s no doubt that the state produces a lot of wealth from a lot of different sectors.
CA has sent hundreds of utility workers, search and rescue folks and hundreds of other first responders to your state to aid. In fact, many businesses in CA had taken up collections for your state to the tune of big $ dollars. I'm hoping others from NJ, are not as uninformed as you.
“the missing California GOPers are in Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Texas and other points east; they were among the creators and producers who left the state due to its uber-Liberal business bashing policies”
Exactly. And what remains are a bunch of liberals who are going bankrupt. May the tax payer not spend a dime on them when they do. Since they are so smart then let them find their own way out. Any conservative that are left in California- Get out Now! It speeds up the process.
