GOP registration dips below 30 percent in Calif.

ACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California has reached an all-time high of 18.2 million registered voters, while the number of registered Republicans has fallen below 30 percent, signaling a worrisome decline for the state's minority party, officials said Friday.

In its final update before Tuesday's general election, the secretary of state's office said the number of registered voters has increased by 950,000 since the 2008 presidential contest. Officials attribute that surge in part to the state's new online registration system, which helped many young, Democratic-leaning Californians sign up to vote this fall.

That system was seen as a threat to the California Republican Party, which has struggled to retain members, let alone add them. The secretary of state announced that Republicans now make up 29.3 percent of the state's electorate, compared with 31.4 percent in 2008.

This appears to be the lowest ebb for the party since records have been available.

the missing California GOPers are in Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Texas and other points east; they were among the creators and producers who left the state due to its uber-Liberal business bashing policies

Democrats are down as well. The trend toward independents marches on.

California is rapidly becoming a state dominated by recent immigrants. I’m not even referring to illegal immigrants, either — or even legal ones from Latin America. California is the prime relocation site for refugees to the U.S. from foreign countries who are funneled there by a Federal government that sees this as the only way to prop up the population of a dying state.

How can a state that has lost so many people have the highest number of registered voters than before? Are they illegals? I am tired of a state that has so many illegals having such a large number of electoral votes. I feel like foreign voters are controlling my future.

Those Republicans remaining must be the squishy type who actually think you can have detente with the Socialists running their state. Surely all the conservatives have abandoned that stinking ship long ago.

There are many more hospitable places to live, especially since Mexico is taking over CA. They only thing they need from Anglos is their money.

I’m stunned the percentage of Republicans in CA is that high.

I would like to see a slow down of Federal dollars flowing into California. As on of the most liberal states fiscal wise, the rest of the U.S shouldn’t be subsidizing dubious California subsidy programs.

If they [California’s] want to fund illegal alien’s work, school, medical and other social programs, let it come from their own general tax revenues.

The flaw in the democratic system is that people tend to vote for what they want, not what they need. Once a population learns they can vote themselves other people's money, well, the gig us up. California will not recover till it collapses completely. Only then will the current voters realize they can't continue down the same path - and even then they might refuse to accept it.

"California is rapidly becoming a state dominated by recent immigrants. I’m not even referring to illegal immigrants, either — or even legal ones from Latin America."

This has been done deliberately by the Democrat Party in order to swamp the conservative/Republican/white vote in California and grab the state's electoral votes. Unfortunately, in the long run, it means the state will be gradually detached from the Union as the population becomes more and more composed of foreigners who have no cultural attachment to the rest of the United States. The corrupt communist Democrats have allowed and encouraged California to be overrun with an non-American alien population. And the commie Dems want to do it to the rest of the nation to.

I feel like foreign voters are controlling my future.

You should and thank the Republicans in part.

For instance, under Bush, more Muslims were allowed to enter the U.S. AFTER 911 than the previous two decades. During war time no less...

How ya them Republican apples?

Yep. The Republicans are also at fault for the dispossession of Americans of their land by foreign alien invaders.

California was the American dream in the first half of the last century. It was the American nightmare in the last half.

I had the opportunity to experience California at it’s zenith, thanks to the United States Air Force.
