Amidst a flooding crisis in Louisiana that has left thousands seeking help in emergency shelters and thousands more lined up seeking necessities, and in the midst of the longest period of sustained unemployment since World War II, with an administration that recently claimed the President has "a lot on his plate", so much so that he can't meet with his jobs council that hasn't convened since January, the over-worked President had time to release this - his recipe for making home-brewed beer.
From the official White House website:
Ed. Note: There's been a lot of buzz online recently about the recipe for the White House Honey Ale and White House Honey Porter, including a popular petition on We the People, the White House's online petition platform.
With public excitement about White House beer fermenting such a buzz, we decided we better hop right to it.
Inspired by home brewers from across the country, last year President Obama bought a home brewing kit for the kitchen. After the few first drafts we landed on some great recipes that came from a local brew shop. We received some tips from a couple of home brewers who work in the White House who helped us amend it and make it our own. To be honest, we were surprised that the beer turned out so well since none of us had brewed beer before.
As far as we know the White House Honey Brown Ale is the first alcohol brewed or distilled on the White House grounds. George Washington brewed beer and distilled whiskey at Mount Vernon and Thomas Jefferson made wine but there's no evidence that any beer has been brewed in the White House.
And here's a recipe for the White House Honey Ale.

This looks like a tolerable beer, though more in the range of of an IPA: SG ~1.072 (assumed "amber crystal malt" = 40L Crystal), 9.1 SRM, 57.6 total IBUs (assuming 4.75% AA and 60-minute boil for both hop additions). Would end up closer to an American Brown Ale if one of the hops is only added at knock-out. (h/t to ProMash and "The New Complete Joy of Homebrewing)
He Didn't Brew That! (The WH Chef does it...)
...fitting to the “Amateur”...
;)
Of course we all know Berry “the Zero” Obama had nothing to do with the brewing or bottling process of his so called honey ale!
Even if he grew the grain and hops and harvested them and then brewed an all grain Ale with them he would never own me!
Tweakers.
Yep it is beginner level brewing! You know that Obozo put no effort into the process of brewing and bottling it! He Probably never saw any of the work involved in brewing “His” ale. What a hoax he is! Kitchen staff were doing all the work and watching temps and the whole process!
No they are already on Malt liqueur! It is specially brew just for his folks.
Extract brewing....figures
Use of malt syrup.....
Dry yeast, (English strain at that......snicker
If the Obama’s think this stuff is good they’d go nuts for mine....Say maybe this is a way for me to get one of those sweet Obama gifts, err I mean ‘loans.’
I might add, I’m planning on brewing an AG batch of my “Endless Summer” Belgian Sour tomorrow. If the WH staff needs some tips, I’m available.
Trying to draw distinctions for the youth...
The cool, likeable guy - no worries, having the hired help brewing his beer, living under someone else’s roof.
vs. the dull, kill-joy parent.
Wow, I would love a cold frosty mug of that Endless Summer Ale!
I am thinking he is trying to subtlety point out a difference between him and “the Mormon”
Yeah, someone else mentioned that and suggested that, perhaps, Starbucks will now come out with some coffee in honor of Obamugabe to point out that Mormons don’t drink coffee either.
And the historic "firsts" just keep on a-comin' from this White Hut.
Looks pretty basic.
So simple even Moochie and the Choom could do it.
If mooch and choom tried to actually brew an Ale without the help of the WH kitchen staff it would be disaster!
