Actor Robert Duvall to host Romney fundraiser

While President Obama is usually the candidate rubbing elbows with Hollywood's celebrities — just this week it was announced the president's campaign would host fundraisers with the cast of "The Wire" and Vogue editor Anna Wintour — Mitt Romney is looking to cash in with some star power of his own.

Actor Robert Duvall, star of "Apocalypse Now" and "The Godfather," will host a fundraiser for the Republican presidential hopeful in September at his Virginia home.

According to the invitation — obtained Wednesday by the National Journal — tickets to the event are $2,500 per person, while a $10,000 donation will assure you a photo with Duvall. For $25,000, supporters will get to enjoy dinner at the Duvall home.

While Romney is not expected to attend, his wife, Ann, is scheduled to be there.

It must have KILLED Hollywood to give Duval an oscar for Tender Mercies. Years later, he had to finance The Apostle with his own money. Fortunately, he made money on the film, despite the studio’s limited release of it : )

And to make it even more painful for Hollyweird, Robert Duvall has these points against him from their viewpoint:

” And to make it even more painful for Hollyweird, Robert Duvall has these points against him from their viewpoint:

He’s from a military family.
He served in the army.
He supports the GOP.
Although his personal beliefs are sketchy, he has respect for Christianity and Christians.
He doesn’t hate the South.
...and he’s a relative of Robert E. Lee! “

If they had known all of this, he never would have got it : )

I agree but you left out Duvall’s epic portrayal of Augustus Macrae in Lonesome Dove

Here on Maui many years ago I had the pleasure of meeting Robert Duval. He talked to me for about a half hour while waiting for a sight seeing helicopter to come and pick he and his wife up for a tour. All that time I never let on that I knew who he was and he asked me a lot of questions about Maui and how I liked living here and what brought me here to start with. Just as his ride was landing I said, Mr. Duval, I'm rooting for you to win the Academy Award for Tender Mercies. That was the first that he realized that I knew who he was. About a month later he did win the award for best actor. He was a very humble and gracious man and I will never forget that meeting with him.

Heck with The Godfather, his best role was in Lovesome Dove.

I would not be surprised if Ricky Schroder gets behine Romey too.

The Apostle was one of Duvall’s best, an outstanding performance. Other favorites of mine are Broken Trail and Open Range (great westerns) and Assassination Tango.

...and he's a relative of Robert E. Lee!

Whom he played in "Gods and Generals", the sequel to "Gettysburg." His portrayal of Lee was as an intelligent warm and caring man, able to make tough decisions, and aware of the human cost of war. He made you understand why Lee's troops loved him. Compare his performance to Martin Sheen's sullen, brooding caricature, with a bad accent, in Gettysburg.
