It must have KILLED Hollywood to give Duval an oscar for Tender Mercies. Years later, he had to finance The Apostle with his own money. Fortunately, he made money on the film, despite the studio’s limited release of it : )

It must have KILLED Hollywood to give Duval an oscar for Tender Mercies. And to make it even more painful for Hollyweird, Robert Duvall has these points against him from their viewpoint:
- He's from a military family.
- He served in the army.
- He supports the GOP.
- Although his personal beliefs are sketchy, he has respect for Christianity and Christians.
- He doesn't hate the South.
- ...and he's a relative of Robert E. Lee!
