Publisher Steve Forbes says he has no trepidation in backing Rick Perry for president, despite his low poll numbers, because the presidential race remains fluid. Forbes who ran for president twice himself also told CNNs Wolf Blitzer Tuesday that he has no trouble with Perrys occasional gaffes, as the Texas governor comes across much better in person.
I think this race has proved it is a very fluid situation and already Newt Gingrich is starting to get some of the flak that every temporary front-runner seems to get, Forbes said. So I think this is going to be a long contest and I think Rick Perry has an excellent chance to move up to the middle between [Mitt] Romney and whats happening with Newt Gingrich.
So I dont think this thing is over at all it is very volatile, he said. I think the real sparks are still yet to come in January and February.
Blitzer asked whether Perrys so-called brain freeze and other gaffes have had any impact on Forbes early decision to back the Texas governor.
No, Ive known Rick Perry since over 10 years ago when he first became governor and put in some excellent reforms to their legal system in Texas especially against tort lawyers, Forbes said. And so hes much better came across much better in person than he did in those early debates....

Good chance they’ll dig up something to knock Newt out of the running.
Mitt and Huntsman are not well liked. Many will not vote for a Mormon.
Backman and Santorum are too controversial.
Paul hasn’t a Chinaman’s chance
HANG IN THERE, RICK!!!!
Go Rick Go!
He also has the very best record of anyone running both on the social side and the economic side.
He is the only one with a recent record of achievement accomplished during the Obama reign that he can actually match up, point for point against Obama.
Rick Perry is by far the best candidate. He's also never lost an election and he wont lose this one.
Newt has had 3 wives and multiple affairs and has had ethics problems which drives down our base.
He is not a stalwart on any of the base issues that drive Republicans to the polls.
Mitt has a better chance at beating Obama than Newt. Perry has the best chance.
OK, so we all know Perry sucks at debates. Not the best but not the end of the world.
Romney and Huntsman won’t even be considered. Bachmann and Santorum are both excellent in their positions but suffer from other flaws that really hamper them.
Gingrich sounds great in the debates, but when you got him in conversation he says really stupid and not conservative stuff.
Then there’s Perry. Not the happiest with his immigration record and some other minor issues, but on budget, jobs, regulations and a number of others there are significant positives.
Now that Cain is out, got to admit that I feel more comfortable with Perry than the rest.
I’ll say this:
If Governor Perry gets the chance, he’ll eat Obama alive.
Governor Perry knows what he believes and is centered in that.
Obama is a political animal (and not really all that great at that) and says what he thinks works best for him. He’ll come across as pandering and PC. Governor Perry will come across as centered and believable. Because he is.
I would LOVE to see those two go toe-to-toe. The Texan would open up a can of whoop-ass on the Chicago boy.
There’s no love lost there.......
Even my brother, a Romney supporter called me after Perry's part time Congress idea and gushed about it. It would transform the power structure in DC. Perry has all the ideas and the will to get them done.
Well, Perry is the only one that has a record he can run on, instead of running away from.
Presidential races often come down to who is the more personable. Certainly Perry comes across as personable. More so than Gingrich. Much more so than Romney.
Convince me that Perry has the intellect required for the job.
What are your thoughts, comments?
Better Governor Perry than Gov. Romney, Rep. Paul or Gov. Huntsman. I also find Rep. Bachmann unqualified due to her lack of executive experience and lack of judgement and Senator Santorum only slightly better. Is that what you mean?
Have you read this speech?
Dec 7, 2011:TRANSCRIPT: Remarks By Rick Perry At Republican Jewish Coalition Forum
It's clear and direct.
Palin was for Forbes in 1996.
Forbes was not for Romney in 2008.
Forbes is for neither Romney nor Gingrich in 2012. This should not be surprising to anyone with even a minor command of the facts.
So, if you're Steve Forbes, with a magazine and residue of cred to your name, whom do you support in 2012?
I was for the guy who turned out to be the Godfather of bimbo eruptions. So, now I need to recalibrate.
If Bachmann can make it, she has my vote. If Perry can make it, I'll vote for him. If Ron catches on, what the hell, he has my vote. Hell, even if Huntsman ...
If Gingrich is the nominee, he'll have my enthusiastic support! But fasten your seatbelts, folks, for a Gingrich Administration!
But, God forbid, the plastic, fake, phony Romney!
If you want to throw daggers with “This should not be surprising to anyone with even a minor command of the facts.”
Then you should not be wasting my time replying about Bachmann, Perry or Paul winning the nomination. Because if YOU had even a minor command of the facts then you would see they blew their chances - LoL!
