Michele protests: I’m no Palin clone (Claims "former Palin backers" now going for Bachmann)
The Boston Herald ^ | June 29, 2011 | Hillary Chabot

Posted on 06/28/2011 10:53:59 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

RAYMOND N.H. — New GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann charmed a backyard of Granite State voters yesterday with her trademark straight talk but bristled at comparisons to fellow Tea Party star Sarah Palin, telling the Herald she’s got a style all her own.

“We both have unique skill sets. I have great respect and admiration for Gov. Palin, I consider her a friend, but I have a unique skill set that I bring to the table,” said Bachmann, 55, after announcing her presidential campaign to New Hampshire voters yesterday morning.

Andy Schwargler, 45, of Orford, N.H., drove more than an hour to see Bachmann, saying he appreciates her down-to-earth style.

“I like the fact that she speaks her mind. I don’t get the feeling that everything coming out of her mouth is a political calculation,” he said.

Granite State political observers said in yesterday’s Herald that former Palin backers are warming up to the Minnesota congresswoman, a claim that Bachmann supported during a wide-ranging interview with the Herald.

“We’ve made multiple trips here to New Hampshire and the momentum is only growing and building and exploding — and people that we have talked to have called up and said they want to leave the candidate they thought they were going to support and support me,” Bachmann said.

Both Bachmann and Palin are anti-abortion Tea Party favorites known for their independent streaks and challenging business as usual in Washington, D.C. Both also have a blunt, tell-it-like-it-is speaking style that resonates with voters.

Bachmann said that while she’d like Palin’s endorsement, she won’t be reaching out to her.

“I would love to have Gov. Palin’s support in this effort. I don’t have her cell phone number so I don’t know how to get in touch with her, but I wish her well,” Bachmann said. She added, “The field is wide open . . . people can come into the race, but I also know that people have resonated with my message.”

Bachmann dismissed claims that her high-profile gaffes have undercut her campaign’s credibility. She said Monday that movie legend John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa, when it was actually serial killer John Wayne Gacy.

“Those are the small issues that quite honestly no one cares about, because everywhere I go people are concerned about the economy,” Bachmann said.

Exhibiting her feisty no-nonsense style, Bachmann told the amped-up New Hampshire crowd that she’d run the White House with a “titanium spine” while touting her economic know-how and her ability to load a shotgun and speak on the fly.

“President Bachmann will be banning the teleprompter from the White House,” she said in a dig at President Obama. “The American people have had enough. They’ve had it up to here. . . . President Obama, you are a one-term president.”

How long before we all know Bachmann is a flake?

I don't think she's a flake at all. I think she's a serious and accomplished congressional representative. That being said, she's gotten a lot of attention by making "Palin-like" noises. If she's got the record to back up her rhetoric I'm that much happier.

However I think we all have to agree that Sarah Palin set the bar for the "conservative warrior" candidate.

Any potential nominee will win or lose based on how well they fit this template for 2012.

Anything less than "conservative" will amount to an Obama victory.

10th rate Palin wannabe.

Even a "10th rate Palin wannabe" is dramatically better than the evil, anti-American thug in our White House, better than Romney, and better than most of the candidates out there. Palin is #1 on my list, and I expect an announcement of Sarah's campaign soon, but if she chooses not to run I will back Bachmann enthusiastically.

They are "friends" but MB doesn't know how to get in touch with???

Friends in the political sense. Like "my good friend the distinguished Senator from blah blah blah"

“She claims that Palin supporters are “warming to her” and that people are leaving the candidates that they once favored and rushing to her”

***********************************

She is misspeaking again. What she means ot say is that Palin supporters are hot under the collar and ar rushing AT her rather than TO her. Perhaps she can’t tell the difference.

“She claims that “..................people have resonated with my message.”, which is not just a misuse/improper use of the word “resonates”, but lousy English.”

Well, we know she is a formidable wordsmith based upon that gem of a letter she wrote to the Department of Justice trying go get her crooked campaign contributor a pardon. LOL

The Palin supporters I know literally detest her.

Michele you can say whatever you want to but you are another Sarah Palin. Just not in the same league. Maybe in another 4 or 8 years you might be.

Didn't have any trouble getting in touch with the Governor in 2010 when MB’s campaign was looking like it could be in trouble, did she?

Bachmann really wasn't in trouble in 2010, unlike 2008 where she darn near lost.

I'm sure she could get a hold of her if she wanted to, but since she's working to get out of the considerable and formidable Palin shadow that's probably not on the to do list.

Just a few of the adjectives the Palin(™) acolytes have used on this thread...

nuts, flake, silly, delusional, creepy, cringe-inducing, ignorant, moronic, nasty, egotistical, kook....

And, you can be sure that they all remain ignorant of the irony.

“I would love to have Gov. Palin’s support in this effort. I don’t have her cell phone number so I don’t know how to get in touch with her, but I wish her well,”

Really???

I like Bachmann, just not as much as I like Palin; but does Michelle really not know how to get in touch with Sarah Palin?

“She’s articulate”

Have you been in some sort of blackout for the last week? Hiding in John Wayne Gacy’s basement perhaps?

“Competent”

At what? Be specific. What has Bachmann ever done? What has she ever run?

“Knows tax law”

How did you esbtablish that? Her only real job (if you can call it that) was as a lawyer for the IRS! The IRS legal corps has more bozos than Barnum and Bailey. And assuming she does know tax law, which you have not established by virtue of her 5 years with the IRS, how does this endear her to the TEA party. (TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY. Get it?) Most in the TEA party would like to see her former employer disappear.

“Knows DC”

You seriously think that is a qualification? What does it mean. She has never chaired a committee, or had a leadership role in congress. She has only been there for 4 years as a backbencher. By this standard, 300 Congress critters are BETTER qualified than she.

Knowing DC, as you put it, gets you nowhere in this cycle.

"... and people that we have talked to have called up and said they want to leave the candidate they thought they were going to support and support me,” Bachmann said.

I'd like to see this quote in full context since a whole lot of people ASS-U-ME they know who she's talking about.

Not that Freepers would ever allow themselves to get suckered by cleverly worded writing. (/s)

The Palin Flash Mob is out w the long knives again and dead set on re-electing obama unless Palin jumps in and gets the nod.

Palins’ biggest problem is not herself, she is great and I hope she runs.

Its her childish cult and flash mob that treats her like the second coming and act like they are on a religious mission in their quests.

We need to beat obama and get that commie bastard out of office, not tear down everyone and anyone other than palin who might also get the gop nod.

Yes, this is ridiculous. I've been saying exactly the same thing. I love Sarah, but MAN! Her supporters are her biggest deficit right now. At a time when the thing we need most is Unity.

I'd ask the Sarah people concerned about Michele's climbing poll #s: Would you really rather have Romney as the nominee and eventual loser to Obama than a President Bachmann?

Funny thing too is that the fanatics don’t treat obama nearly as harshly as they do other repubs.

The gop could run bernie madoff or joran vandersloot over obama at this point and I will support that against obama.

If it comes down to bachmann v romney or bachmann v obama the palin or nothing crowd better look in the mirror and do a serious gut check of just what the heck they think they are accomplisishing by their actions.

Rollins also said that Michele Bachmann was “Not a serious candidate” back in January of this year..makes ya wonder why Bachmann would hire a guy that trashed her on national TV

Because she was told he is the best man to accomplish the mission of taking away enough votes from Palin to allow the candidate they really want to be President, Romney , to win. She’s not running for President. She has zero qualifications other than meeting the age and citizenship requirements. The carrot being dangled in front of her most likely is the VP slot, should she succeed in her mission. IMHO, she will fail.

Garfield is even less useful as a precedent for Bachmann than you suggest. Not only was he a general in the Civil War and a prominent member of the House (Chairman of the Appropriations Committee), he was elected to the Senate from Ohio before he became President. He never took his seat, but his election indicates that at the time he was nominated to run for President he was one of the most prominent politicians in one of the most important states.

Bachmann, by contrast, is an ambitious but undistinguished backbencher who is running for President because she has no future in statewide Minnesota politics. She says most of the right lines, but it is far from clear that she fully understands them. She has no record of executive (or even legislative achievement) and no history of being near the center of the national debate in these troubled times. There is absolutely no basis for believing that she's capable of leading America out of the rut we find ourselves in.

I guess there was that time she turned the health care debate around by invoking “death panels.” Wait a minute, that was someone else. There was her early and eloquent warning about the madness of QEII. Oops, that was someone else too. Of course the media hangs on her every word and she has an uncanny ability to shape the national conversation armed only with a Facebook page and a Twitter account. Nope, that too is someone else.

Michelle Bachmann has all of Sarah Palin’s liabilities and none of her strengths. She wont’ be the nominee and her candidacy is nothing but a distraction from the serious task of finding a conservative candidate who can win the nomination. If she's the best we've got, the establishment will succeed in nominating Mitt the Twit. We'd be better off with Obama. At least conservatives won't catch the blame for his failure.

The Bachmann bed wetters on this forum are funny. Do they not think that after the currently named candidates have dispensed with the pleasantries that Mitt and his Merry Band of Dumpster Diving Bottom Feeders aren't going to point out the things we have been talking about?

My sentence was a recreation of the sentence FROM the article, with a different clause after the “when it was actually”. I don’t think she used the words “movie legend”, that was the author’s way of describing John Wayne to his readers.

He was assuming that she mistakenly thought John Wayne Gacy was John Wayne, when it is more likely she mistakenly said John Wayne lived in Waterloo when it was his parents.

I’m sure growing up in Waterloo they made a big deal out of John Wayne’s parents living there. People love to mention tenuous connections to fame.

I would find it hard to imagine she would mistake John Wayne for the serial killer John Gacy. And since there is a much more realistic explanation for her error, I choose to believe the simpler, more obvious explanation, until someone proves otherwise.
