GOP Beltway Insiders Krauthammer and Will Describe the Substantive Reasons Sarah Palin Can’t Win
Hot Air ^ | June 5, 2011 | Director Blue

Charles Krauthammer‘s substantive reasons that Sarah Palin can’t win in 2012:

I think it would make no sense for her to run. I think her chances of winning the nomination are small. The chances of winning the general election are probably nil. I think, for the same reasons you articulated, 60 percent negatives. That’s almost impossible to overcome. And it isn’t as if that is forever. Hillary Clinton had very high negatives at many points in her career. But over time, they tend to soften.

…The problem with her, I think, is that she is not schooled. I don’t mean she didn’t go to the right schools… But when it comes to policies, she’s had two and a half years to school herself, and she hasn’t. And that’s a problem. You want a president who will be able to not have to learn on the job. We’ve already had that… …with President Obama and with others… It’s the lack of effort to school herself and the lack of insight to see that she needs it…

…I think if you’re going to master policy, especially world affairs, you’ve got to know history. As you said, you have to know how things evolved, and she is weak on that. It’s not as if she can’t learn. The fact is it doesn’t appear as if she wants to sort of sit down, spend some months schooling herself, as many people have done in preparing for the presidency. If you’re a governor of any state, you face a narrow range of issues, and you don’t have to deal with the world. It’s incumbent on you to actually learn about it.

So, just to recap, Sarah Palin can’t win against Barack Obama because she has high negatives, she hasn’t “school[ed] herself”, and she’s weak on history. But an incompetent community agitator with no executive experience, no private sector experience and who is an acolyte of Alinsky is qualified because he has a beautiful, cultured speaking voice.

George Will‘s substantive reasons that Sarah Palin can’t win in 2012:

The independent voters have made up their minds about her, and it is a negative judgment they’ve made… After the 2008 campaign she had two things she had to do: she had to go home to Alaska and study, and she had to govern Alaska well. Instead she quit halfway through her first term and shows up in the audience of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and other distinctly non-presidential venues…

Just to recap: independent voters have a negative opinion of Palin. And the fact that Democrat operatives had filed 18 frivolous lawsuits — all later dismissed — against her (source: Associated Press), which were bankrupting her family, had nothing at all to do with it. That, plus appearing in the audience of Dancing with the Stars, disqualifies her.

Is this really what passes for informed commentary inside the Beltway?

Remember: Krauthammer worked for Walter-Freaking-Mondale in 1980. George Will endorsed Howard Baker in 1980. Both of these guys completely missed the Reagan revolution. Krauthammer and Will are certainly smart dudes, but their political instincts appear to be for s***. Palin can win. Bachmann can win. Cain can win. Ryan can win. Santorum can win. Obama is a sitting duck if confronted with a true, articulate Constitutional conservative.

He’s a walking, talking disaster as President. And everyone knows it.

By the way, I’ve been out of town for a while. How are those Stimulus, HAMP, Cash-for-Clunkers, Weatherization, Green Jobs, Obamacare, “Banking Reform”, drilling moratorium, First-Time Home-Buyer Credit, auto company takeovers and QE2 programs working out?

Hat tips: Mark Levin and Gateway Pundit.

Because there are way more of us out here that are non-RINO. Palin does not need the blessing of the party hacks. Just as the commies took over the Dems, we too can take (back) the Republican party.

Remember all those Tea party candidates that the GOP actively fought against? The party got slaughtered. Sure, they won a couple, but not one of those winners had a fraction of the people behind them that Palin does...and they still won.

Basic math.

You’re very cynical. If the “progressive” wing of the party votes for the Punk, it’ll be like throwing a handgernade into the economy. If they would prefer a Marxist fraud and failure to Sarah Palin, America will become a corpse from sea to shining sea. Bob.

I do not see anyone else who has exactly what is needed to turn things around. I see Sarah as our last hope of survival. Seriously.

I agree. See #119

Republicans win when...and only when...the base is energized.

The media is attempting to dishearten the base with constant ridicule of Palin...because they fear her candidacy the most of any potential nominee.

As David Horowitz has said, the attacks on Palin are actually attacks on conservatives.

Any conservative allowing himself to be swayed or disheartened by these media tactics needs to sit down, shut up and get out of the way.

We'll do the heavy lifting. Quit adding to the load with this inane naysaying.

Politics is not basic math. More than a couple of Tea Party conservatives “slaughtered” their opponents in their respective primaries, only to have the party “hacks” as you put it, turn on them causing them to lose in the general election. Palin is making sure that does not happen to her before she goes out and wins enough delegates in the primaries to lock up the nomination - only to have the establishment stab her in the back. And don’t think they won’t do it!

This is what some people don’t yet realize. If enough of those indy types stay with Obama, then America is over as a country. The majority will have definitively voted in 2 consecutive elections for Socio/communism. Once is a dumb mistake. But twice? That means the ‘Great Experiment’ has failed. It means there are definitively, as shown by the actual votes, more Socialists and Communists in the country than Americans. There is no other logical way to interpret it.

Sure they will. Only a fool would think otherwise. But again, Palin has 100 to 1 (a hypothetical number, but you get my meaning) votes for every party hack/GOP anointed. There are not enough of them to overcome us.

No, I’m not cynical. I just know the history of the Republican Party and who still controls it. If you want to take the party “back”, I suggest you get involved in the party at your local precinct level, work the primary and general elections as an official poll worker (they pay you for that), go to your county or district conventions, meetings, state conventions, get your hands dirty, find out what is really going on, then come back and tell me I’m just cynical.

She's already running, and in a few weeks she'll make that plain to all the idiots who can't see it yet... perhaps because they're still looking for the next "Magic Negro" candidate that will keep the liberals from being mean to us.

So, just who are the idiots and who might be their next Magic Negro?

I think you are confusing the primary election with the general election. Of course the conservative voters outnumber the party “hacks” 100 to 1. We know it and they know it, and they cannot stop Gov. Palin from winning the nomination. But they can stop her from winning the general election. They can withhold their support. They can withhold their money and their friends money. And Palin with need to match up with over a Billion dollars! This discussion started about Krauthammer, Will, and by inference Kristol. Those so-called intellectuals will continue to use every rhetorical trick and Alinsky tactic right through the general election unless they are called off by their masters.

Obama’s record of ineptitude is unparalleled.

Unless things turn around and turn around quickly, Flavor Flav could beat him in 2012

The empty promises and a slogan won’t get it done this time.

He will have to run on his record, which is abysmal.

He’s in way over his head and it shows.

He’s nothing but a slick-talker that woes the Dems and the MSM (Same thing) with slick talk and impossible promises.

He can’t blame Bush after 4 years. He owns this economy, the unemployment rate, the high gas prices and the bankrupting of our country.

If he is re-elected, the vote was either rigged or a majority of the American people are complete idiots.

How do you “rehire” someone who has done such a lousy job and nearly bankrupted your “company”?

The "chase-bus" or what I like to call the Magical Mystery Tour was for the Palin family. I think Sarah wanted to see if the family could handle the campaign for the long haul. They will be with her much of the time during the campaign. Will they be able to stand long hours on the bus, the motel rooms, the motor home cooked food for months at a time? That was a big question she had to answer. Another will be the public reception of the movie, The Undefeated. Will that movie change the dynamics of the public's perception of her that has been shaped by the media? Will she change the perception that those in her own party have of her? Will the electorate see her as a serious opponent to Obama? Questions. Questions.

That bus is also key to our question, is she going to run? I do believe Sarah Palin is going to run after more questions are answered. Will the family stay with her on the campaign trail? Will they spend some of the time in their new house in Arizona? Or, will they stay on the bus? It is almost obvious that bus was made ready for the campaign. That is why the press went after her. They were expecting her to make the announcement sometime during the tour. Instead, the family went on a fun ride to America's historic sites to prepare them for the ride of their lives. That bus will go from doing a Magical Mystery Tour to Sarah Most Unconventional Campaign. Instead of whistle stops, it will be bus stops. She will go down to the people in an intimate way like no other candidate has done since Harry Truman's whistle stop whirlwind 30,000-mile train tour of the United States. The bone chilling, man against the environment of Alaska has toughened Sarah Palin and has prepared her to do it. And, her experience will pass down to her children a very important legacy that will be passed to future generations. In my estimation, Sarah believes that her children are being given an opportunity of experience that no amount of money could buy.

I am rooting for Todd and Sarah Palin like I would have supported four-time winner Todd Palin in the 2000-mile Iron Dog Race. The Iron Dog Race is a metaphor for the campaign that Sarah will wage. I support her because she is a winner.

We face the most perilous tmes our country has ever faced with huge national debt, a crisis as bad as the Civil War or the Great Depression...

Add the danger we still face from Islamofacists terrorists, and the worst political and media class this country has ever had, and I agree with you wholeheartedly.

Should Sarah Palin run for president and get the nomination, I will vote for her. Yet, at this point in the process, I'm still looking for something in her that I haven't seen yet. As mentioned, I struggle to put it into words. It's something I intuit, like she's a mile wide and a half-inch deep. I may be wrong about this, and she may show her mettle as the campaign goes along, but it is my take at this point.

When the Left elected Obama, they knew what he was. They knew he lacked experience and never put much effort into anything in his life, but they didn't care. He is a Marxist, black and a passable speaker (although nowhere near as good as the narrative about him holds). That was enough for the Left.

I fear the Right may be on the verge of making the same mistake as regards Sarah Palin.

All of what you said makes sense, but he will have over a billion dollars, from here and overseas to spend on advertising, and advertising works. Otherwise, why does everybody from AT&T to Pepsi spend billions on it? And the vote can be rigged. Ask anybody from Chicago. Which is why we need more poll workers, W@e are way outnumbered there. As we are by complete idiots who also vote!

What doesn’t she do?

How about, for starters, she needs to put together an effective, deep nationwide organization. It will be critical if she's seriously running for president.

You don’t have to guess, its so simple. Gov. Palin is too smart to waste her time running if the Party is going to oppose her in the general election, if she wins the nomination against the will of the Party leadership. She is capable of getting enogh votes to do that. But, this is something that she cannot come out and say.

“But they can stop her from winning the general election. They can withhold their support. They can withhold their money and their friends money. And Palin with need to match up with over a Billion dollars!”

That Billion $ figure is a fantasy the Msmlibs push to instil fear. Nothing more. Where is he going to get it with Palin hounding him for the 08 foreign donations? She already started. He cannot do it again with impunity.

The hometown crowd won’t even show to sell out a smallish fundraiser. This has happened several times now.

As for the Repubs, old boy money and support could help, sure, but the groundswell of people already lining up to donate and support her cancels them out by far.

All the ‘friends’ in DC matter not a whit against the kind of forces that are growing against their same old BS. The people gave up on the GOP. Look right here on FR how many ‘former’ Repubs there are! And we live in a bubble here as I have said before. The gen pub aren’t so committed to party politics and trust the GOP almost as little as the Dems. When we the hardcore threw in the towel, you can bet the gen pub did/is doing it as well.

THAT is where the money/support/ability to overcome regular GOP party hack cronyism comes from.

This is not Ross Perot we are talking about. And she doesn’t seem to be interested in trading them anything for their ‘support.’ I think she learned in 08 how fleeting that can be. Thus, she will owe them nothing - and thus why they will fight to stop her..but they can’t. Never have we the people had a candidate so well placed to genuinely have a chance at turning this disaster/Lib BS around...We know it and they know we know it. If we don’t do it now, there will be no second chance. Ever.

“This discussion started about Krauthammer, Will, and by inference Kristol. Those so-called intellectuals will continue to use every rhetorical trick and Alinsky tactic right through the general election unless they are called off by their masters.”

Let them keep making it up as they go along. I pray they do! People are rapidly discovering they are nothing but Dems in disguise and BS artists regardless.

People are VERY sick of the lies and BS and are waking up to it, regardless of the source. As the attacks grow over the next 17 MONTHS, there will be few left believing any of those idiots - far too few to make a difference.

I sure like your positive attitude! But I stiil think Gov. Palin has a better chance with her Party behind her instead of working against her, and I still think she is working to make sure of that support, behind the scenes, prior to her official announcement!
