President Barack Obama is one of America's best politicians ever, according to one of his potential rivals for re-election in 2012.
"The president is one of the greatest politicians in the history of the United States," Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour said Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."
Barbour's comments came during a discussion of Wisconsin's budget battle - a fight that's sparked widespread protests as Republican Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has tried to curtail collective bargaining rights for public employees.
Obama is "quiet [on the issue] because most Americans know this has to be done,"

I’m not sure that being a “great politician” is a compliment - at least not to me it isn’t. I’d rather be called a great statesman or a leader.
Okay, who put the pod in his cellar?!
Barbaour is right. Any other pol would be at 30 percent approval right now.
sometimes one simply has to LOL, for me this is one of those Headline times.
great politician is not the same as great leader
Svengali is the classification which Obama fits.
You know, that is the exact same thing they say about ole Bubba Clinton. Being a good politician is not exactly a ringing endorsement for leadership and character.
After his stint on FoxNews Sunday a couple of weeks ago, Barbour needs to learn one thing — Keep your mouth closed.
Every time he opens it, he loses support.
He is already OFF of my list of desirable Presidential candidates for 2012. And the list is already VERY short.
It's called a RUSE.
1) Half black.
2) Hates America.
3) Can read a teleprompter.
Dumbest maybe, but definitely not among the greatest.
I don’t think this is a compliment from a Mississippian. More like an insult.
It’s more the media. Barbour has no doubt said a lot of things about Obama. The media cuts the 6 words or so that it wants, and that’s all it reports.
Politician is right up there with Actor in my book.
IMHO, Obama is not great at one darned thing.
He is a black liberal with the MSM in his pocket. People don’t want the racist card thrown at them...especially those who consider themselves “enlightened” and above the masses.
Barbour is like a Cheshire Cat. I am sure he has underlying motives. If you want to talk about Great “Politicians” I give you Bill Clinton.
