Romney Steers Clear of Tea Party

You might expect that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, one of the top likely candidates for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, would cozy up to tea party followers anytime he can. But he’s actually steering clear of the movement, The Boston Globe reports.

“Romney for the most part is inaccessible,’’ says Andrew Hemingway, chairman of New Hampshire’s Republican Liberty Caucus. “[Minnesota Gov. Tom] Pawlenty, I could call him right now and say, ‘Let’s have coffee.’”

Romney has kept his distance from tea party activists in key primary states, including the state viewed as a must win for him – New Hampshire.

“Thus far, Romney is on track to present himself as the establishment candidate — a responsible, mainstream Republican leader with the necessary financial resources and credentials to beat President Obama,”(continued)

“Thus far, Romney is on track to present himself as the establishment candidate — a responsible, mainstream Republican leader with the necessary financial resources and credentials to beat President Obama,”

And the only things he lacks are integrity and people with a desire to vote for him.

Of course no one involved in the Tea Party support a socialist and opportunistic fraud like Willard?

I think all the scheming and devious Romneybots should be purged from both the GOP and FR.

He doesn’t have to steer clear of the Tea Party - we are on different roads.

If true, I appreciate his honesty. I wouldn’t think pretending to cozy up to the tea party would work for him anyway; we wouldn’t buy it. He’s NOT my choice for president, but again, I appreciate his honesty.

I fail to see the downside in this - for the Tea Party.

If Romney thinks he can get anywhere without the TEA party he is a very slow learner, or else even further out of touch than most RINOs.

But he’s actually steering clear of the movement, The Boston Globe reports.

Since he isn't even remotely conservative, and the tea party by definition is fiscally conservative, I can see why he's avoiding them. I can also see why they would avoid him.

This is the “Boston Globe”, after all. They have no understanding of the Tea Party movement, and it seems that they are continuing to try to force Romney on us as our candidate in 2012.

Romney prolly couldn’t handle a Town Hall. The Tea Party would shred him like we did the Congresscritters who voted for 0bamaCare.

I am in agreement with them being purged from FR. The only problem is that I am not Jim Robinson.

Spoiler Romney: "I've seen the light.
It is opposite the Tea Party. It is ObamaCARE/RomneyCARE."

“Thus far, Romney is on track to present himself
(to the MSM and the DNC and his foreign controllers like Soros)
as the establishment candidate (by avoiding the Tea Party
and by avoiding FreeRepublic and other conservatives)."

So Romney is TRYING to become acceptable to Obama and
the DNC and the MSM. Now why would he do that?

He can steer clear of them but they will not steer away from him.

Romney’s great hope is to find some way to become the candidate of the GOP, and then turn to the Tea Party and Conservatives and let them know that’s its either himself or 4 more glorious years of Obama.

The prospect of the above is not a great deal to look forward to, actually if the guy had a real concern for America he would not even run.

I mean, we just had the House repeal that draconian pile of crap Health Care law and he was THE GUY who built his own mini-montstrasity in Mass?

Mitt has the wrong ideas to be President, although he might make a good cabinet leader IMO.

The late, great historian Barbara Tuchman had this to say about leadership in the 20th century:

"When it comes to leaders we have, if anything a superabundance. . . They are scurrying around, collecting consensus, gathering as wide an acceptance as possible. But what they are not doing, very notably, is standing still and saying, 'This is what I believe. This is what I will do and what I will not do. This is my code of behavior and this is outside it. This is excellent and that is trash.' There is an abdication of moral leadership in the sense of a general unwillingness to state standards."

Tuchman did have a way with words...

The one thing we absolutely have to keep in our minds is that we must elect Republican Senators and Congressmen. We must have veto override just in case obama wins reelection. That may be our only chance of surviving as a nation. Of course I pray that Sarah can run and win, but we must be prepared in case she doesn’t.
