Gingrich, Palin have no shot at being GOP presidential nominee (So why write a column about it?)
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | December 28, 2010 | Jay Bookman

Bill Kristol, the Fox News analyst and Weekly Standard editor, made a couple of predictions on Fox News Sunday about the GOP presidential race:

“Can I go out on a limb, since everyone else is scared to say — actually make any predictions. I predict Palin will not run. I have no knowledge at all; I just have the hunch that she ultimately will not run.

I think Newt Gingrich is underestimated. Newt is going to run and Newt will be formidable. People can talk about the baggage, but lots of candidates have had lots of baggage, and people think they’re the right guy for the job, he could do better — and I do think — than people expect.”

Kristol has been an advocate for Palin in the past, so his prediction about her candidacy is interesting in that light. I also think he’s correct. Palin has peaked politically, and will be taken less and less seriously from here on out. A year from now, she’ll be considered little more than a curiosity. Public Policy Polling — admittedly, a Democratic-leaning polling firm — says that even in Alaska, her popularity has plummeted....

Just for starters, I would like to see John Bolton give it a shot. He usually calls a spade a spade, and he kept the UN in a turmoil when he was Amb.

The GOP needs to pay any attention to Jay Bookman’s droppings the way it needs a hole in the head. He is a far leftist and fan of Bernie Sanders whom he compared to Jefferson Smith of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington:

” Judging from some of the comments, Senator Sanders seems to gotten a few folks a mite excited, hasn’t he?

I don’t agree with all he has to say, but I do agree with a lot of it. I also get a kick out of people on this blog and elsewhere who seem to be scandalized that such things have been said in this country.

Sanders makes a helluva lot more sense and hews much closer to reality and truth than such shining stars on the right as Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Jim DeMint, Michele Bachman and a whole raft of others who have been spewing rhetorical nonsense for so long that it has become an accepted part of the political environment.

And that’s a fact.”

Any spin he puts on anyone’s remarks should be discounted 100%. He has the intellect of Cynthia Tucker with different plumbing. Dim bulb.

This makes, what, the 4000th rticle this month telling us Palin is unelectible? Boy for someone who has no chance, the press sure spends a lot of ink to make sure we understand that!

I keep reading about the supposed “baggage” of Palin...what exactly is that baggage?

It's from her bags which are packed and headed to 1600 Ppennsylvania Ave.

Newt did the one thing that will kill him politically. The Donks are just waiting for him to run.

I don't hunt, but I sure don't fault hunters and the Palins eat their food. Calling her a barbarian is both outrageous and wrong.

Vick willing tortured dogs and did prison time for his crimes. Linking Sarah Palin with the criminal Michael Vick does not compute.

The poster might be rabid.

I don’t think Sarah will run either. I think she enjoys her independence too much. I believe she’ll continue as a “kingmaker”

I may be completely wrong but it seems to me that every word she says is on all news BECAUSE everybody is scared to death that she will run and win. Now if suddenly she is not running, the fear will go away - therefore they will stop talking about her and the "king maker" thing will disappear as well. Again I may be wrong but that's what I feel. What do you think?

If these clowns were not so infuriating I could feel sorry for them. They are so scared of this powerful woman.

The “baggage” reference made by little Billy was about Gingrich.

That’s a good point. As long as she’s perceived as a potential candidate, the media does pay attention to her every word. She could lose that “kingmaker” ability if she doesn’t run. By the same token, if she handles it the right way, perhaps by aligning herself with one candidate, she could still retain her power-especially if that candidate wins at least the nomination.

My read on Sarah Palin is that the more you tell her she can’t do something, the more determined she is to prove you wrong. The problem with Bill Kristol, etal, is that they view everything though a political prism. Politics has little to do with Sarah Palin running for president. This isn’t a power thing for her but an opportunity to serve and solve some very serious problems. We’ll have her back. Those politicos won’t know what hit them.
