As evidence against my skepticism of Sarah Palins supposed front-runner status for 2012, I give you the latest round of Public Policy Center polls:
PPPs newest batch of 2012 Republican primary polls conducted right before last weeks election finds Mitt Romney ahead in the critical early state of Florida, Tim Pawlenty surprisingly weak in his home state of Minnesota, and Sarah Palin posting leads in Texas, Wisconsin, West Virginia, and Maine.
All of her leads are relatively slim, but the fact that shes ahead of Huckabee in Texas and West Virginia is notable, and her leads in Maine (by 23 percent to Romneys 18 percent and Huckabees 16 percent) and Wisconsin (with 18 percent to Huckabees 15 percent and Gingrichs 14 percent) suggest that a Palin candidacy might have a wider geographic appeal than earlier polls had implied. (The previous round of PPP polling had shown her trailing in New England, the Midwest and the West alike.)
The other news in these polls is, once again, the weakness of Romney as the front-runner. He leads in Florida with 28 percent, but thats down from 44 percent the last time PPP ran the numbers. (The earlier poll included fewer candidates, PPP notes, and were finding more and more as we do these polls that when new folks are added into the mix it tends to hurt Romney more than anyone else.) Hes fourth in Wisconsin, because Tim Pawlenty takes a large bite out of his numbers in that state, and tied for fourth in Minnesota, where Pawlenty leads (though only narrowly) over Palin. These numbers prompt HotAirs Allahpundit to speculate that Romney actually needs the former Alaska governor in the race...

President Huckabee? I don’t think so. Just ask conservatives who tried to work with him in Arkansas.
There is going to be a Grizzly in the White House.
Romney's only hope is for conservatives to divide their votes for several candidates.
Romneycare = Obamacare. Although at the state level, I guess if you want to implement that kind of horrible legislation, fine but at the federal level, no way!!
I do NOT want him in the running for President.
Sarah, oth, just grows in stature and influence. Yep, should be fun to watch.
Which is why the MSM is pushing so hard for Mitt to get the nomination. He's the one GOP candidate who could geld the most potent campaign issue in 2012.
I had to look that up. Good one!
I doubt that, but I hope I'm wrong. :-)
Excellent point!
Excellent. DESTINED.
