The GOP nominating McCain in 2008 took amnesty off the table as an issue. Nominating Romney in 2012 would talk Obamacare off the table.
Which is why the MSM is pushing so hard for Mitt to get the nomination. He's the one GOP candidate who could geld the most potent campaign issue in 2012.
