On the very day America learned so-called journalists conspired to destroy Sarah Palin from the moment John McCain chose her as his running mate, Politico's Roger Simon declared she's at the top of the Republican Party.
Assuming he's correct, what does that tell us about all those in the mainstream media that have been looking down their noses for almost two years as they worked overtime to smear this woman?
Before we attempt to answer that question, let's see what Simon had to say:
More than 13 months ago, I wrote a column that began: "Sarah Palin can be the Republican nominee in 2012. [...]
Now, more than a year later, I have not changed my mind about Palin's political potential. This is not based on the polls - especially a recent one showing her in a 46 percent to 46 percent tie with Obama in a hypothetical 2012 face-off. I don't believe such polls tell us anything meaningful.
I am basing my belief now, as back then, on Palin's ability to connect with the base of her party. Name a bigger name in the Republican Party today. Heck, name any name in the Republican Party today.
And the most energized wing of her party - Republican tea partiers - has good reason to like her.
After discussing Palin's fabulous performance at February's Tea Party convention in Nashville, Tennessee, Simon hit on some key points:
Whatever Palin has been doing since then seems to be working. And I have noticed a certain change in how the media are viewing her. In a recent column giving advice to journalists, Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic wrote: "Be humble about conclusions. ... Sarah Palin may not be ready to be president today, but that doesn't mean she won't be ready to be president tomorrow."
In even better news for Palin, her political opponents continue to dismiss her. Mark Halperin wrote in Time magazine recently: "An adviser to Mitt Romney ... says of Palin, She's not a serious human being.'"
Simon concluded:
Besides, does the most serious human being always win? Did Al Gore? Did John Kerry?
Sarah Palin has something more than intellect. She has the ability to understand, connect with and energize her party.
More than that, she has the ability to connect with PEOPLE, something Gore and Kerry didn't. Clearly, this is an issue Simon's colleagues in the press continue to ignore which has been a common failing in their ranks for decades.
Media elites have been attacking the intellectual capacity of Republican presidential candidates for years. According to them, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush were all too stupid to be Commander in Chief.
But what these so-called journalists have been missing for so many years is that most Americans don't have college degrees and don't necessarily identify with those that do. According to the Census Bureau, only 27 percent of our citizens has a bachelor's degree; only ten percent has a masters or doctorate.
Yet, the elites in the media keep wondering why so-called "intellectuals" typically fare poorly at the polls.
Despite such lack of success, press members continue to bash the intelligence quotients of those on the right.
In 2008, it was Palin's turn, and they've been doing it ever since. These folks had a field day recently with the former governor's new word "refudiate"
To be sure, the attacks on her character, along with a number of disturbingly dishonest press tactics, got Barack Obama elected in November 2008. But in the long run this strategy might have backfired - and badly.
After approaching 24 months of incessant Palin bashing by the media, as Simon noted, her popularity continues to rise. At the same time, polls show Obama and the Democrats hitting new favorability lows.
Irrespective of the press's support for a failing administration, Americans seem weary of this hopey changey thing.
Which bring us to the moral of the story: the more the media denigrate a conservative's intelligence, the more popular he or she becomes.
Makes you wonder if all of these folks with their fancy degrees will ever learn.
I grant you she’s become more effective, certainly with the Republican base. However, I’m not sure she is yet effectively swaying large numbers of independents.
Remember, Reagan went through many years of this before finally breaking through.
Reagan was painted as an extremist by the MSM, and was unable to get over the hump the first time in 1976, and lost the nomination to the MSM’s preferred Republican, Ford.
Sarah, like Reagan, has a big hill to climb and it isn’t going to happen overnight.
It wasn't; so you don't.
Because, in my view, this group of MSM'ers expects the conservative base within the Republican party to be able to secure the nomination for Sarah in spite of the MSM attacks.
If the Gallup poll results don't change, they may well be right - Sarah highly popular among the Republican base, but high negatives among Democrats and Independents.
At some point she is going to have to bring independents over to her, and also I think will need to eat into a good bit of the white working class Democrats that Hillary seems to appeal to.
They're NOT that smart, nor do they have any basic understanding of the tactics of war (which apply to politics).
Witness the monumental blunder they committed by continuing to hound and attack Sarah Palin after she lost the 2008 election and had returned to Alaska, where she was safely out of the way, and of little threat to the Dems.
In one of the most extreme cases of unintended consequences on record, the MSM and the left-wing agents working to destroy Sarah actually UNLEASHED her to grow a thousand times stronger, and to become and even LARGER threat than she ever was.
Not only did they ensure that she would march straight to the campaign trail, helping Republicans to get elected, but that she'd be free to criticize the Obama administration relentlessly (and very effectively, I might add).
Due to their forcing her to move to a superior fighting position, they also made it possible for her to begin working on her 2012 campaign early, and at her own pace, which is absolutely ideal for any presidential hopeful.
Oh, and they also made it possible for her to have the time and space to write a best-selling book that made her a millionaire in the process.
Don't twist your logic so badly that you trip on it. The MSM attacks Sarah Palin for one reason only - she is their destroyer, and they know this. They're not smart enough, nor rational enough to implement anything like what you suggest.
To add one more point to this, I think her most effective avenue of appeal to independents and Hillary democrats is going to be on economic issues.
In 1980, Reagan had Milton Friednam advising him; Sarah needs to find someone of similar brilliance and authority from the conservative side of the economics world and have that person at her side advising her.
LOL
+1
Milton Friednam = Milton Friedman
A little rhetorical question..."what's up with that anyway?" Of course they knew in their gut she is a huge future threat...
LadyL, you have ripped the veil off the truth of the controversy over Sarah Palin and exposed what is at the heart of it.
She isn't just another politician. If you're the type of person who gets a lump in their throat just reading about the founding of our nation, then you're the type of person who can see past the superficial, and into the unique character of this very special woman.
She embodies all that is best in our people, now, and throughout our illustrious history.
It's often happened in our history, that in our hour of greatest peril, a courageous American has risen among the people to lead the charge against what threatens our survival. I believe that Sarah Palin is such a person, and that she will do exactly that, if we will have her.
Sarah's already been walking up that hill for the last two years. She's doing just fine, following in Ronnie's footsteps.
I so agree with you and understand completely what you are saying.
Thanks for your post.
To God be the glory!
What's up with that, is the fact that the left was so filled with rage, and so determined to destroy Sarah that they never stopped to think through the possible consequences of what they were doing.
Oh, they knew she was a threat, alright. She was such a huge threat that they abandoned all reason and strategic logic to take her down. They intended to cast her into the Dead Forever file.
If they'd stopped for even a moment to think about it, they would have realized that simply leaving her to quietly govern the state of Alaska, far away from the big leagues of national politics, her star would have dimmed significantly by the time she was freed from the Governorship to pursue her national ambitions. She probably wouldn't have had enough time or remaining star power to build a winning juggernaut for 2012, as she's doing now.
Instead, they have created the very thing they feared most. Sarah Palin will oppose Obama for the presidency in 2012, and the liberals know that he cannot beat her. Not only that, she will likely undo most of everything they've built in the last 50 years.
One of the most ironic aspects to all of this, is that every arrow the left fires at Sarah only seems to make her stronger, and many of them seem to boomerang back and wound the Dems.
I've never seen anything like it.
Politico's Simon: "Call me irresponsible:
I say Romney won"
I disagree. They thought that about Reagan and WE thought that about Obama and both of them managed to do what almost every professional talking head thought was flat out impossible.
I could not agree more.
Like attracts like. Just look at what we have in Washington now. Time for a massive routing, and way more Americans than even we may guess will not be happy until it is complete.
“anyone who has eyes to see, and ears to hear, that there is a huge Spiritual battle going on in this country. “
Wow, that was well said.
It is easy to see and understand simply by knowing that there is one element missing in this whole foray. Commonsense. Any fool can see the path we are heading down is destruction of all that is good.
Jujitsu fighter, out-of-the-box thinker.
Not only are pregnant mothers involved but there are the fathers, family members, doctors, nurses, and other professionals, so that over these past 37 years there are several millions of people who are cursed living in this country. Now before anyone jumps in that has repented and received forgiveness from God, they are not included in the cursed.
The Bible says there is a curse on all those who shed innocent blood. I believe the curse is the ability to tell right from wrong and commonsense is removed from a person's perception. That is how we can see so many people today that call good evil and evil, good.
That is how we see this country divided 50/50 and diametrically opposed on most moral values. It is these people who hate Sarah Palin and are highly agitated by her position and presence.
