Politico's Simon: 'Palin is at the top of her Party'
NewsBusters ^ | July 22, 2010 | Noel Sheppard, Associate Editor

Posted on 07/22/2010 8:35:00 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

On the very day America learned so-called journalists conspired to destroy Sarah Palin from the moment John McCain chose her as his running mate, Politico's Roger Simon declared she's at the top of the Republican Party.

Assuming he's correct, what does that tell us about all those in the mainstream media that have been looking down their noses for almost two years as they worked overtime to smear this woman?

Before we attempt to answer that question, let's see what Simon had to say:

More than 13 months ago, I wrote a column that began: "Sarah Palin can be the Republican nominee in 2012. [...]

Now, more than a year later, I have not changed my mind about Palin's political potential. This is not based on the polls - especially a recent one showing her in a 46 percent to 46 percent tie with Obama in a hypothetical 2012 face-off. I don't believe such polls tell us anything meaningful.

I am basing my belief now, as back then, on Palin's ability to connect with the base of her party. Name a bigger name in the Republican Party today. Heck, name any name in the Republican Party today.

And the most energized wing of her party - Republican tea partiers - has good reason to like her.

After discussing Palin's fabulous performance at February's Tea Party convention in Nashville, Tennessee, Simon hit on some key points:

Whatever Palin has been doing since then seems to be working. And I have noticed a certain change in how the media are viewing her. In a recent column giving advice to journalists, Marc Ambinder of The Atlantic wrote: "Be humble about conclusions. ... Sarah Palin may not be ready to be president today, but that doesn't mean she won't be ready to be president tomorrow."

In even better news for Palin, her political opponents continue to dismiss her. Mark Halperin wrote in Time magazine recently: "An adviser to Mitt Romney ... says of Palin, ‘She's not a serious human being.'"

Simon concluded:

Besides, does the most serious human being always win? Did Al Gore? Did John Kerry?

Sarah Palin has something more than intellect. She has the ability to understand, connect with and energize her party.

More than that, she has the ability to connect with PEOPLE, something Gore and Kerry didn't. Clearly, this is an issue Simon's colleagues in the press continue to ignore which has been a common failing in their ranks for decades.

Media elites have been attacking the intellectual capacity of Republican presidential candidates for years. According to them, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush were all too stupid to be Commander in Chief.

But what these so-called journalists have been missing for so many years is that most Americans don't have college degrees and don't necessarily identify with those that do. According to the Census Bureau, only 27 percent of our citizens has a bachelor's degree; only ten percent has a masters or doctorate.

Yet, the elites in the media keep wondering why so-called "intellectuals" typically fare poorly at the polls.

Despite such lack of success, press members continue to bash the intelligence quotients of those on the right.

In 2008, it was Palin's turn, and they've been doing it ever since. These folks had a field day recently with the former governor's new word "refudiate"

To be sure, the attacks on her character, along with a number of disturbingly dishonest press tactics, got Barack Obama elected in November 2008. But in the long run this strategy might have backfired - and badly.

After approaching 24 months of incessant Palin bashing by the media, as Simon noted, her popularity continues to rise. At the same time, polls show Obama and the Democrats hitting new favorability lows.

Irrespective of the press's support for a failing administration, Americans seem weary of this hopey changey thing.

Which bring us to the moral of the story: the more the media denigrate a conservative's intelligence, the more popular he or she becomes.

Makes you wonder if all of these folks with their fancy degrees will ever learn.

I think there is a strong thread within the MSM that wants Sarah Palin to be the Republican nominee because the MSM has done SO much character assasination on her, and will continue to do so, that her negatives will be very high outside her loyal conservative base.

In other words, the MSM has created such a mountain of slime on her that it will be too high a climb for her to get over it.

I think there are others in the MSM who are more wary of Palin and worry that she might be able to somehow penetrate through the MSM shield and connect with enough of America to be elected president, especially as Obama’s mask continues to slip.

Sarah won the Kobayashi Maru test

“A no-win situation caused by a set of rules that can only be won by changing the rules, in effect, cheating”....Sarah cheated the MSM and the libs out of the satisfactions of her being destroyed already, She changed the rules on her terms!

She believes in No-win situations!

You know Obama is in deep shit when he is beaten in polls by the likes of Romney, Huckabee and Gingrich and is even in a dead heat with Sarah Palin!

There must be a sense of panic not only in Congress but also in the White House as well.

And that panic is probably very palpable, very real and very well deserved.

“Makes you wonder if all of these folks with their fancy degrees will ever learn.”

Nope, an essential requirement to learn from past mistakes, and/or present mis-concepion is HONESTY!
Corporate Media lacks this quality by definition!
They are hucksters who exist for Corporate money/power interests first, foremost, and sadly exclusively.
Prove me wrong by example!

I think there is a strong thread within the MSM that wants Sarah Palin to be the Republican nominee because the MSM has done SO much character assasination on her, and will continue to do so, that her negatives will be very high outside her loyal conservative base.

I don't see that at all. In fact, I see the exact reverse happening.

The MSM have attacked Sarah Palin relentlessly, and with a fury rarely seen in American politics, ever since she was introduced to the public in the 2008 campaign. They continue to attack her for one reason, and one reason only. She represents the clearest threat to their Utopian Socialist wet dreams than any person since Ronald Reagan. In their minds, she MUST be destroyed before she ever gets close to the White House.

In the meantime, the MSM is attempting to choose the Republican nominee for 2012 by producing sympathetic puff pieces on lesser Republican threats, such as Romney, Gingrich, Pawlenty, and Huckabee. Nowhere will you find them launching the same sort of invective at these potential candidates, as they do at Palin.

She is clearly the most threatening person in the entire center-right pantheon of hopefuls, hence the non-stop fusillade from the left.

This is also a point that some on the right completely miss. By training nearly their entire arsenal upon Sarah Palin, the left has telegraphed precisely who the right should run for president. It is, of course, the person they attack the most.

You'd think that if liberals can see this, then certainly conservatives can figure it out. Unfortunately, you'd only be mostly right. Far too many on our side have not noticed the obvious yet.

I agree.

The reason for these relentless attacks on Sarah Palin’s character and the assassination of her character by the liberals is because THEY FEAR HER THE MOST.

Palin represents everything the liberal hates in women especially conservative women, namely a brain that thinks for itself.

Sarah won the Kobayashi Maru test

Totally.

The Dems (and some supposed Republicans) were rubbing their hands together in glee, just knowing that Sarah was going to continue to stand in one spot, without cover, as they literally shot her to pieces.

She showed them that American patriots still fight the way our honored forefathers did against the British. She abandoned that indefensible position, and moved to higher, better protected ground and began decimating them with shell after shell.

And now, some complain that she "quit" that suicidal position, while giving her no credit for the successful battle she's now waging.

What's that tell you about such people?

"Sarah Palin has something more than intellect. She has the ability to understand, connect with and energize her party."

At least Simon is admitting that Sarah Palin HAS intellect! That's a major accomplishment!

Thank you.

The one point that I forgot to add is the fact that the MSM and the left have erred by shooting their heaviest artillery at Sarah Palin so early in the war. By the time 2012 rolls around, they’ll have nothing but spent cartridges left.

And - not only have they already shot their best loads at her, most of them have missed. Sarah has withstood all those that have struck, and has grown even more popular and powerful since the barrage began.

I tell you, the left has completely bungled this campaign. Sarah has outflanked, outmaneuvered, and outplayed them at every turn.

Mark my words.... students of political science will carefully study this slice of history in the future.
