Contributors discuss Sarah Palin's comments about the Ground Zero mosque in light of her divergence from elite opinion.
Brian Katulis, senior fellow, Center for American Progress
Its unfortunate, though unsurprising, that the attention-seeking former half-term governor is carelessly exploiting the Sept. 11 attacks in this way. Suggesting, as Sarah Palin did, that the presence of a mosque near ground zero is a stab in the heart of America is insulting to core values that make our country great: tolerance and pluralism.
Tom Korologos, former ambassador, Republican strategist
Whether the number of Palin supporters is 16 percent of Washingtons elite now theres a wow group that represents the countrys mood or the 38 percent nationwide or somewhere in between, in the end, a minority of a minority does not a majority make.
Brad Bannon, president, Bannon Communications Research
Mayor Michael Bloomberg sees the construction of a mosque near ground zero as an opportunity for racial healing. Sarah Palin sees the mosque as an excuse to inflame the racial passions that serve her so well.
Ross Baker, political scientist, Rutgers University
The Washington elite has had more experience than the general public in spotting phonies and opportunists who line their pockets by feeding raw meat to gullible people. If all Palin can do is double her elite support score with the broader electorate it wont get her a presidential nomination but guarantees her prime space in People magazine.
James Carafano, senior research fellow, Heritage Foundation
The fact that everyone obsesses over Sarah Palins Twitter and that official Washington hates her pretty much confirms that she must be a national voice get used to it.

Tolerance is bullsh**. I'm intolerant of communism, period, end of sentence.
Race to destruction maybe.
I hope so. Being estranged from elite opinion is like being 'estranged' from the lunatics in the asylum.
Hopefully. I don't think Sarah is all that interested in being aligned with the "elites."
Palin is a real person. The Elitists hate her for that.
Everything is “race” to these morons.
How come my Christianity isn’t a “race”?
Why don’t I get the protections and advantages the bloody MoHamHead savages get?
Is it that my Christianity is the “wrong” “race”?
What’s that say about these purveyors of race war?
There will be a day of reckoning for these people, and it won’t be pretty.
What an idiot. Any Republican who looks to this kook for strategy deserves to lose his/her seat.
Every time I read something like this I am more convinced than ever that the people at Politico are on drugs.
Spoken like a true elitist douchebag!
First off, I don’t believe 38% approve of the Tea Party movement. I believe it is much higher than that—but who can prove it. Second, we are making our voice heard. And one of the reasons we like Sarah so much, is because she speaks as one of us and NOT one of the “elites”. I dispise the elites.
In fact, I have a racial bias against the elites. Oh, yeah, they are not a race. But I do have a prejudice against the “learned ones.”
I have peaceful images of Muslimes and commies hangin’ out side by side....from lightposts in NYC......
"Race" is a code word for "identity group", not a race in any sense you might find in your dictionary.
Think of it this way: Individuals, thinking for themselves, require facts and explanations. Herds need only a slogan or two.
Now, if you want everybody to do something that you don't dare explain to them, which way are you going to approach them?
Quod erat demonstrandum
Given the amount of time since the 9-11 attack, it’s distressing to think people are still so uninformed about Islam not to understand how triumphalist this mosque is. Even it’s very name is a middle finger in our faces. I also wonder how many NYC pockets get lined with Saudi money.
How surprising. Center for American Progress on top of the elite heap.
Americans had better learn this:

while they still have a chance to learn anything at all.
Well, at Mr. Obama’s USDA and Justice Department, white is the wrong race, so why the surprise?
Not just that. Like al Aqsa, it is a mark of conquest and a property sign: This is ours. We took it. Muslim land forever.
Tom Korologos is mentioned in a book Mitt Romney wrote with Mike Korologos,
and might even have been the Thompson "helper" that ruined the Thompson campaign for Romney.
