GOP gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner, well behind in the polls, has begun airing an ad linking rival Meg Whitman to people and issues unpopular with state Republican voters. Following is the text of the ad and an analysis by Bee Political Editor Amy Chance:
TEXT: "Is Meg Whitman your kind of Republican? She supports Obama's amnesty for illegal aliens. Like Schwarzenegger, will continue taxpayer-funded benefits to illegals. A skyrocketing cost under Obamacare. For 28 years Whitman refused to vote Republican. But she contributed to, and campaigned, for Barbara Boxer. Like Boxer, Whitman supports taxpayer-funded abortion. Whitman even supported the disastrous bank bailout. After Arnold, don't we deserve a Republican?"
ANALYSIS: It's true that Whitman supported the bank bailout and contributed to Democratic U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer. Just about everything else in the ad is either misleading or simply false:

LOL, that kind of attack add is likley to win her Rat votes!
The party establishment is behind the insipid Whitman. Apparently, in a state with a huge population, this is the best we can do. I’m not impressed.
The alternative is Moonbat Brown.
This is shaping up a lot like when we had to vote for McCain just to try to stop BHO.
“It’s true that Whitman supported the bank bailout and contributed to Democratic U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer.”
That should be enough condemnation for anyone.
She doesn’t sound like anything I could be proud to vote for.
Oh look honey!...A picture of big government Sellouts RâUs. Isn’t that special! Don’t they look nice and happy while the whole country is in a depression and our rights are being trampled?
Can’t beat the comparison between her stance and BHO on amnesty. That she even gave a single dollar to Boxer is troubling, very! She will probably win the primary. But conscience demands a vote for Poizner.
uh, Poizner?
He’s been a disappointment as insurance commissioner. We started out with high hopes.
The machine is going to force Whitman on us either way.
Arnold couldn’t stand up to he unions, but we’re supposed to believe Whitman can?
Whitman is not a conservative, by any stretch.
Even if the guy was the best thing since sliced bread he just doesnt have a winning name. Whitman isnt my ideal candidate by a long shot, but she is better than the Governator or a lib-rat.
Another McCain ‘republican’..no thanks.
Here’s a bit more about their debate.

GOP candidates take tough positions on illegal immigration

Meg Whitman had just finished delivering her campaign stump speech for an El Dorado Hills audience several months ago when she asked for questions from the crowd.
Two words, phrased as a statement, were the first to pop from the audience of about 30 people: “Illegal aliens.”
The Republican gubernatorial hopeful didn’t miss a beat, promising to get tough on employers of such immigrants and otherwise stop the influx.
That scene has played out countless times on the campaign trail this year, where illegal immigration has remained a hot topic for many state Republicans, even as or perhaps because unemployment and other economic worries have grown.
Republican candidates have responded by staking out tough positions on the subject, and Whitman rival Steve Poizner, in particular, has built much of his campaign on pledging to cut state services for all illegal immigrants.
“My view is we should not have any magnets left,” Poizner said last month at the state Republican convention. “We should turn off all incentives. We should end all taxpayer benefits for people here illegally.”

Ahhh I searched and searched and cant find any evidence of her ever being a conservative of any fashion. Poisner is another mystery. I think its against the law to be conservative in CA.
We have a fairly conservative candidate running. Poizner may not be perfect, but he’s much more conservative than Whitman - he’s got Tom McClintock’s endorsement as “The Conservative Candidate”

I wish people would stop harping on his name, and being resigned to Whitman....if you really want change, not just talking and bellyaching, get out and do something for Poizner.
He’s out funded by Meg, but she shouldn’t buy her way into the governor’s office - we’ve seen what Arnold did with that opportunity.
I have a great one page PDF that I’d be happy to email anyone -print them out and pass them around.

Winning Name? Ever hear of U.S. Rep. DIck Swett?
ROFL, I.. I.. I just dont know wat to say to that...
Anyone that believes wht the Bee prints is brain desd!
I stand corrected on my criticisms of Poizner. I am told by those who know that he has peformed admirably as insurance commish but—has failed to get that message out to the people.
I have already planned to support him against Whitman in the primary, but I also understand the reality of establishment politics.
