Dear Free Republic,
I just wanted to briefly introduce myself. Several volunteers on my campaign are posters here and recommended I make an introduction. I hope I am posting right! I am a conservative Republican running in the 3rd District of Kansas -- my campaign is dedicated to the principles of limited government, individual liberty, economic freedom, the rule of law, and a culture of life.
I encourage you to take a look at my website at http://www.patricialightner.com -- take particular notice to the Issues, Newsroom, "Patricia's Desk" and Ask Patricia sections.
Thank you for your consideration!
All the best, Patricia
Welcome to FReerepublic!
I wish you the best of luck. Democrats are vulnerable this year. Keep your wits and you will win.
You posted this perfectly.
I'll check out your website!

Patricia,
I wish you luck in your campaign as you are undoubtedly better for the country than any Democrat would be. If that sounds like faint praise, that’s because it is. I think you should strive for more. For example, from your website’s “Issues” page:
*TAX REFORM
I am a strong supporter of fundamental tax reform at the federal level. I am a supporter of the FairTax, provided that the income tax is repealed as are other forms of taxation. I am also open to other proposals such as a flat tax and other ways that will simply make our tax system fairer, flatter, and simpler. I believe anyone elected to Congress should keep an open mind as to the various proposals for tax reform. *
This sounds rather indefinite to me. “Fairer”, “flatter” and “simpler” signal a position relative to the existing system and could mean leaving progressivity and tax-system social engineering on the table. The FairTax proudly proclaims itself “progressive” which all Republicans should consider a dirty word meaning “punishing success while rewarding failure”.
Why not point out that some people have to pay a 40% income tax rate so others can escape paying the 10% flat rate (either income or sales tax) that would otherwise return the same revenue as the convoluted, progressive income tax we currently have ?
How about explaining that it is mathematically impossible for a business to pay any taxes at all without that money really coming out of the pockets of its employees, customers, or shareholders ? That any business tax at all is simply a disingenuous attempt to hoodwink the voters into thinking someone else will somehow pay it.
How about suggesting that a 10% flat rate — on an individual’s income only or on all retail sales and no indirect taxing via business taxes — be the upper limit to fund a balanced budget and then spending must be prioritized until it fits within the tax revenue available from that 10% level ?
What are the most important lessons you learned while serving in the Kansas legislature?
The day Dennis the Menace resigned, I searched to find who had announced on the Republican side. I researched them all and decided Patricia Lightner was the one for me. I declared her the "Michelle Bachmann of Kansas"!
Cut taxes. Cut taxes. Cut taxes. Repeal the Obama Healthcare Bill and replace it with tort reform, health savings accounts and interstate competition in insurance. Reduce the size of the Federal Government. It has become too big to exist. Leviathan. There are legions of lobbyists in Washington because they are attracted to big, fat, juicy, about-to-burst federal government teats. Offer them raisins and they will scatter like cockroaches from a light bulb.
Where are the Patricia Lightner for Congress headquarters?
Thanks Free State Four! We don’t have a HQ, but hope to in the next month or so. For now, you can sign up via our website (you may have already) and we’ll let you know. Thanks so much!
