Sarah Palin's McCain Conundrum
The Rush Limbaugh Show ^ | February 19, 2010 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 02/19/2010 2:47:52 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here's Don in Prescott, Arizona, great to have you on the Rush Limbaugh program.

CALLER: Pleasure to speak with you, Rush.

RUSH: Yes, sir.

CALLER: My question is in regards to Sarah Palin's support of John McCain in the Arizona senatorial race. She's allied herself with the tea party movement, but I can assure you, the Arizona tea party folks are not supporting John McCain. The chair of the Maricopa Republican Party -- you may have of heard this last week -- went on the news last week and stated that he doesn't even regard John McCain as a Republican. So I went to a J. D. Hayworth campaign rally on Tuesday of this week sponsored by the tea party, and John McCain got mostly boos when his name was mentioned. So I understand that Palin sees some allegiance to John McCain, but it's really terribly misplaced allegiance. So my question is, can anything be done to get her to support J. D. Hayworth, or is it too late at this point?

RUSH: Oh, it's too late. She's not going to bounce off of this.

CALLER: What are the implications for her -- you know, certainly she's supporting a candidate that's held in very low regard to the tea party movement.

RUSH: Yeah, but --

CALLER: What are the implications for her in all this?

RUSH: We talked about this the other day. I know a lot of people think that this is the part of cronyism in politics that's gotta change.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: However, if you're Sarah Palin, the one thing you know is that if it weren't for John McCain, nobody would know who you are right now.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: And there's, you know, she has some loyalty there. I'm more puzzled by Scott Brown endorsing McCain and then having McCain come into his district so Brown can campaign for him.

CALLER: Yeah.

RUSH: Palin's not doing that.

CALLER: We're hoping that J. D. Hayworth's going to make it, but certainly Sarah Palin -- probably independents in Arizona would like the fact that she was here and supporting John McCain, but certainly the tea party movement is not in line with that.

RUSH: Well, I know. It's tough thing. I know why she's doing it. Look it: I haven't spoken to her about it, and I don't even want to put words in her mouth. I can only address this were I to be in her shoes. And she's a Republican, and she's made the case that she's a Republican, and this guy put her on the ticket, and had that not happened, she'd be "Sarah Who?" She owes him something.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Okay, now, look, those of you out there in the tea party that are miffed at Sarah Palin and at Scott Brown, I just want to remind you of one thing, like I said the other day. If Sarah Palin had not endorsed McCain, can you imagine what the press would do to her? Can you imagine the refrain: "Oh, he's perfectly fine to be president, you'd run on the ticket with him as president, but he's not good enough to be Senator from Arizona?" They would kill her. And in the case of Scott Brown, McCain was the first senator to openly support Scott Brown. He was being totally ignored by every other Republican in the Beltway. It's the same deal, folks, it's just loyalty. It just is.

Loyalty doesn’t bug me. When they start sounding like McCain I’ll get miffed.

“she’d be “Sarah Who?” She owes him something”

Rush is right on. Only the Palin haters are stirring things up. That said I’m supporting JD with contributions and I don’t care how much money McQueeg spends or who supports him it will not change my mind on the back stabber.

She owes him something.

I would submit that she doesn't owe him her integrity.

"Only the Palin haters are stirring things up."

Put a sock in it.

Sara Palin has done a lot of good for conservatives.
Backing McCain undoes a lot of that good.
With her endorsement the elite that named him in the first place can claim that conservatives still support him and that the Tea Parties and "others" are radicals - "Palin haters" if you will.

She is just one of the crowd after pimping for Juan.

Come on. You don’t judge people on one event. You have to look at the totality of the circumstances. Nobody is perfect 100% of the time.

Loyalty should only be to what is right and to the truth.

That is exactly the right decision. Outwork the McCain side to nominate Hayworth then it won’t matter who does or doesn’t endorse him.

I'm not only supportive of Mrs. Palin , I hope she decides to throw in her hat in 2012.

That said, this idea of Mrs. Palin "oweing" John McCain is just wrong. That is exactly how politics has gotten so twisted in this country. Mrs. Palin stands capably on her own two feet. As should all political candidates.

No two ways about it, this was a mistake for Mrs. Palin to offer support for McCain, not just politically, but on the limited government side of where we need to be in this country.

This could cost her support, and more importantly, if Jaun reciprocates at the 2012 time frame it will be viewed as a negative on her.

My opinion, she should back quietly away starting now.

Palin haters?I used to be a staunch supporter who intended to donate money AND time to her,now she`s just another politician, playing the “game”. Well no more games, keep drinking that brand new flavor of Kool-aid, just don`t expect others to develop a taste.

***it won’t matter who does or doesn’t endorse him***

You have stated the case for the TEA movement perfectly and I believe it supports Sarah Palin’s. The people are the source of a candidate’s success or failure - not fellow politicians.

Each candidate should stand on his own merits to face the voters.

McCain’s not that bad, folks. He’s a combination of ingredients.

We either adore or hate our politicians, which is a juvenile way to be. Is it because we enjoy being whipped up by the radio and TV talkers, just as we enjoy a good sports competition?

I see, it was ok to vote for McCain and allow him to be president so you could support her, but you can’t support her to allow him to be a Senator. What is there that you don’t see? She has to support him. He asked her to. He put her on the ma. Doesn’t loyalty mean anything? All of the good she has done, all she has spoken out for and against means nothing because of one issue? You deserve Romney.

The press would destroy Sarah if she turned against McCain. She would no longer have the same level of power and influence that she does now. And not having that power and influence is extremely detrimental to our cause.

So you expect Sarah to give up her power and influence in order to throw McCain under the bus? That’s cutting off our noses to spite our faces, is it not?

Amen. I'm able to do something that a lot of people here aren't. I can walk and chew gum at the same time. I'm a big Palin supporter and completely understand why SHE is supporting John McCain. Does that mean that I want McCain to beat Hayworth? No. I'm mature enough to say "Sarah, I love you and what you stand for. I want you to be President. I understand why you are supporting McCain. Still I'm supporting the other guy. May the best guy win".

I'm sure she holds no grudges for anyone who prefers Hayworth, and I'm sure if Hayworth wins the primary, that she will support him, just as Hayworth has said that he will support McCain if McCain wins the primary.

Folks, it's really OK for Sarah to back McCain here. She would be a complete hypocrite if she didn't after being his VP choice 2 years ago. If you liked Sarah before, there is no reason to quit liking her now. Just grow up and face the fact that NOBODY, not even Sarah Palin is going to agree with you every day on every single issue. Are you going to let one disagreement over 1 candidate spoil it for you? She sure isn't going to let her love of Americans who prefer Hayworth spoil it. Grow up already.

Where do you draw the line with this 'loyalty'? How far does it go, should she campaign for other RINOs that we need to weed out, becuase McCain points them out to her as 'pub friends needing help? Whether or not she "owes" them anything. And when their principles are the opposite of hers? If most of her supporters give her a pass on her cheering McAm on, she may just shrug and feel free to help people like Charlie Crist or anyone else with an R by his name.

IMO she owes Juan nothing. He let her twist in the wind with the attacks on her in '08 and let his jerks in hs campaign insult her & foment further attacks on her. JD Haworth would be a great conservative replacement for liberal REgressive 'rat-friendly open-borders Bailout John./

Sarah has to do what she has to do. Her personal integrity is on the line here. She has to repay McCain for putting her on the big stage.

But, after this election, she won’t owe John McCain the courtesy of a return phone call, and can go wherever her heart and her integrity takes her.

I’d bet dollars to donuts that she’s secretly rooting for JD Hayworth.

I’ve always said, “Sarah, that ain’t rogue”... Here’s the Real Deal-y-o...

First, nothing can help John McCain. Sarah couldn’t get him into the White House and she’s not going to get him re-elected. Second, Sarah is spending political capitol to pay off a political debt. If she goes through with her support of John, she’s going to be laced with him, like an albatross around her neck till hell freezes over, and she’s going to have to accept what comes of it.

To the purist Tea Party affiliates she is already looking and sounding like the rest of the DC crowd, playing political games to stay relevant. To them she is slipping into the mold, not breaking it. To the purist, “political realities” do not matter. Sarah has to decide if being loyal to the scuzz that brought her to the dance is worth it, or, does she really, really, really go rogue, slap the scuzz down and walk out on him.

Sarah, he’s used you before and intends to do it again, he’s a scuzz Sarah... is it worth it to be loyal to a scuzz. I don’t care what Rush says, Sarah, you would do yourself a big, big favor is you parted ways with the Liberal Republican in conservative’s clothing. To us, John is a turn coat, always has been and always will be... hell girl, we only voted for him because you were on the ticket... be loyal to the folks that want to believe in you...
