Anyone else notice something peculiar about today's bill signing?
Typically, a bill signing takes place in the East Room, or in the Rose Garden if the weather is nice. The president is flanked by the bill's co-sponsors who get to share in the glory and bask in the reporters' flash bulbs and television cameras.
Not this time. There was no Congressional procession to the White House. No press conference on the driveway. Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, and Steny Hoyer did not get to stand beaming with pride as Obama signed into law billions upon billions of dollars of democratic spending. Nope. President Obama stood at a lecturn a thousand miles away from Pennsylvania Avenue, and sopped up the applause and credit alone.
The president may have been trying to de-politicize a most partisan bill, and infuse it with his goodwill and high approvals. But the absence of his Congressional allies at the signing of the biggest spending bill in American, make that world, history was notable. He may have said today that the bailout was for all Americans. But the optics of the event said something different: that the credit was his alone.
Narcissist,,
If Reagan or Bush had spent this much time out of the office in their first months the demobats would have herniated their vocal chords with the screaming.
Obama, a legend in his own mind...
As a matter of fact, I did. Here's a whole thread about the music at the signing ceremony

I think this is the One’s new MO. He is going to put on these big outside the Beltway signings for as many major bills as practicable.
File under PR stunts.
I’ll tell you something I found odd.. according to statitistics at Americanprogress.org (a flaming liberal site)... Colorado got THE LOWEST benefit from this stimulus.. at least, in terms of % returned as compared to % Colorado typically pays... They’re getting the BIGGEST SHAFT of all.. and, he picks THERE to go sign it.
Man.. you’ve got to love the irony.

President Reagan meets with the Press after signing the 1981 Tax Reconciliation Bill, Rancho Del Cielo. 8/13/81.
Better days for America.
King O. In his own mind anyway.
It’s all they do. Not one viable, sensible program has come out of hopenchange yet. In fact, The One is finding out the the less-than-intelligent-Chimpy-McBushilter’s policies are worth keeping. But I guess that just shows his perspicacity.
Actually, it’s a smart move.
Great picture!
gotta keep that hypnosis spell alive.
Military officer with "football" always with president.
Teleprompter replaces "football"
Campaign speeches, prompts replace nuclear codes.
“Actually, its a smart move.”
How so? Isn’t it safe to say that even some Dems are getting burned out on the Obamas’ 24/7 coverage?
One of these days, he’s going to be surprised when he “calls court” and only a handful of political hack type workers show up.
It will be a reminder of days gone by, like the one for Sheehan’s book signing in that big empty tent. And she sat in a folding chair wondering where her pandering crowd was.
Obama is going to end up radioactive here very shortly and noone is going to give a hoot where he is and when he gets there.
That’s my prediction. It gives me hope for change I can believe in.
