Brad Carson Leads Opponent By 11 Points In Latest Tulsa World Poll For The United States Senate

An independent poll commissioned by the Tulsa World shows Congressman Brad Carson with an 11 point lead over Republican candidate Kirk Humphreys in a head to head match-up in the United States Senate race to succeed retiring Senator Don Nickles.

“What this poll says is that we still need to go out everyday for the next 10 months and work to earn the support of the voters of Oklahoma,” said Congressman Carson. “I believe Oklahomans are tired of politics as usual and are ready for a bold new vision for our state. I have promised a campaign of ideas that will move our state in the right direction of restoring jobs, providing quality health care and promoting our values.”

The statewide poll of Republicans and Democrats conducted from January 14 – 21 by Consumer Logic surveyed 525 registered Democrats and 326 registered Republican voters and found that if the election were held today 47% would vote for Congressman Brad Carson, while Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys only garnered 36%. 17% of the respondents remained undecided.

“Oklahomans are enthusiastic about a leader who isn’t afraid to stand up for what is right and won’t shy away from making sure that Oklahoma’s future comes first,” said Congressman Carson. “I look forward to taking my vision to every corner of our great state and visiting with voters about how we can work together to make sure that the days of Oklahoma being ranked at the bottom of the nation in health care, education, and federal dollars are simply statistics of the past.”

Al Soltow, a consultant for the Oklahoma poll, called Carson “the clear choice”. In the head to head match-up between Carson and Humphreys, Carson crushed his Republican opponent both in the “Tulsa area” (53% - 30%) and the “rest of the state” (53% - 31%).

Source???

If it is the Tulsa World, you could bet that the numbers were manipulated. The World is worse than the NYT.

Did this "Newspaper" explain why it polled 525 Registered Democrats but only 326 Registered Republicans?

This poll was commissioned in mid-January. I don't know where the race stands now. Still, this is one reason that Tom Coburn decided to get into the race.

Oklahoma is a heavily Baptist state, and they tend to vote for other Baptists. While the voters were willing to support the Roman Catholic Don Nickles, there were doubts as to whether they would support a Mormon (which Ernest Istook is).

Well do these Baptists understand that in 2004 a vote for the DemocRAT senate candidate is a vote for "gay marriage" regardless of whether that candidate is Baptist?

That would be in keeping with Oklahoma's archaic party registration numbers. The state is full of DINO's who vote Republican for everything federal.

Old poll. And who needs Istook when Tom Coburn is just what the doctor ordered?

Sorry for the pun. But I'm not kidding about Dr. Coburn; he would eliminate Carson's advantage in NE and SE OKlahoma and win with at least 53%.

How good are Coburn's chances of winning the primary? Humphreys has been campaigning for quite a while.

Dr. Coburn would be an excellent candidate; I plan to vote for whoever is on the GOP side of the ticket in November. But I'm afraid he's not as well known in the OKC Metro area as Humphreys. Humphrey's also has the backing of the GOP establishment it seems. I hope Coburn has plans to campaign heavily in the West & North OKC/Edmond area, which is where most of Republicans in the state are. Whatever happens, a Carson win would be the worst possible outcome. He would be one of those Senators who would say one thing to the home folks, then vote with his liberal buddies up in D.C.

two problems here:

Did they over-sample DEM voters?

Also if Carson is leading in TULSA by 20 and rest of state by 20, how is it he is only leading by 11????????

That's because OK is majority registered Democrats despite the heavy GOP congressional victories in recent years. Fred Harris may be making his comeback this year in the personage of Brad Carson! The next thing we know polls will show this second JFK leading in OK!!!

You know, the OK "country-club" establishment might actually prefer to lose with Humphreys than to win with Coburn. Still, I am unsure that Coburn can win either the nomination or the election. He tells too much truth, and that is not what people like to hear. Nickles decided to bow out without a clear-cut favorite to run for his seat. This seat could hence go Democrat for the first time since 1974.
