My husband climbed towers for 20 years - never made the kind of money that pro athletes make.......I'm certainly not putting them on a pedestal...... but I still like to watch football.....lol

Yes that part of the economy would be destroyed. BTW a 1000 ft tower collapsed in Huntsville, AL last Friday. 3 guys working on it were killed.

Oh I hadn't heard about that tower falling! Geez - I wonder if it was the base that didn't hold, or the construction itself? We had a 500 ft tower that fell one year - ice accumulated on it - unusual for West Texas....... Few of those things are insured because it costs too much - lightening hits them regularly.....

It failed at 100 ft level and they were well above that. My guess is it was a compression failure due to equipment and human weight.

Some engineer somewhere is gonna be in deep doodoo..... or it could be a problem with the way it was assembled..... What a shame - I'm so sorry for all involved -

It is tragic. I think the average tower out there today was not designed for all the weight that has been added in the past 10 years.

They are pretty careful about how much they add - my husband can look at a tower and tell you how many carriers it can accomodate - I think problems like this one falling are usually going to be either a badly put up tower, or a situation where the base wasn't properly done and caused a shift in the ground...... just my guess....
