Two more rumors bite the dust (Ride home and torn clothing just not true, sources say)
The Vail Daily ^ | 8/4/03 | The Vail Daily

Two more reports regarding the Kobe Bryant case circulating among part of the national media were debunked Monday.

Media reports that the 19-year-old woman who Bryant allegedly assaulted received a ride home is not the case, sources said Monday. Reports that her clothing was torn are also untrue, sources also.

Sources told the Daily that the alleged victim managed to get herself home by 11:50 p.m., June 30, after ending the shift at the Lodge at Cordillera at around 11:10 p.m.

They also said that while her clothing was disheveled and showed signs that something had occurred, it wasn't torn or ripped, as some reports indicated.

"Some of the reports made it sound like something out of a bad movie," said one source. "It wasn't like that."

The reports are part of a larger set of rumors and gossip that have been circulating across the country about the case. Among them:

- That the alleged victim was in the room two hours. It was only about 20 minutes.

- When she came down, she was hysterical. She was not. Sources said she was in a stupor and a state of shock.

- A few days before the incident, the alleged victim had accused another hotel worker of sexual harassment, getting him fired. Not true, said the man who was terminated. It was not the alleged victim.

Cameras in court

Eagle County Judge Fred Gannett ruled that not only is Bryant required to appear at 4 p.m. Wednesday, he also ruled Monday that there will be cameras in the courtroom.

Gannett denied a motion by Bryant's attorneys asking Gannett to reconsider an earlier order allowing one video camera and one still camera in the courtroom while Bryant is advised of the charges against him, and also advised of his rights.

I don't think it will matter whether she has a mental illness or not. I think this case will hinge on physical evidence. If the case is weak enough that the defense can build her past or her mental state into a workable theory, then Kobe will of course be acquitted.

Since this is obvious to me, a person who doesn't even play a district attorney on TV, then I think the DA in Eagle must have some pretty hard core evidence that she was forced and beaten. And if this is so, discrediting her due to mental illness is meaningless. Of course a mentally ill woman can be raped.

Bryant lawyers try to stem leaks (Kobe Lawyers' File Motion)

I have to ask, will the reporters and journalists have to state under oath that they have been recieving info or whose been giving info from law enforcement to write their articles?

I read Ann Coulter and I know she believes women shouldn't vote, so I don't put much credence in anything else she has to say.

And as far as personal attacks, I believe YOU started that. And not just with me.

That is two **RECENT** suicide attempts and a **forced mental hospital stay** for observation due to the violence upon herself. A cop had her committed for a while.

I think what will come out that will shock the public was Kobe did her in the rump with no condom IMO! I think she got home, her mother saw what she looked like and that's why mom called the cops the next morning.

This requires us to believe that the accuser's mother examines her daughter's rump each morning.

Also probably due to the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ they were seeing. Chance at a lottery sized pay day.

If that were the accuser's motive, would it not have made more sense to quietly approach Bryant and demand a payoff? The first step taken by most blackmailers is not to go downtown and file a police report.

YOOHOO, can you all verify #472 for me? I'm being called a liar and you guys KNOW how much I hate that!

Howlin, I have never once called you a liar. But, in order to clear your name so you're not viewed as a poster who makes reckless statements, I'll glady invite you to point to the post.

Perhaps, once again, your emotional reaction is clouding your interpretative abilities.

He has been quick to try to dispell rumors and, so far, everything he's reported has turned out to be true.

What's that? What has he reported that's been proven true?

She is not stable enough to have her word cause a parking ticket, much less a career ending felony.

You are wrong. Couldn't a mentally ill patient in a hospital be raped? The girl's stability will not be this issue here; no matter how nuts she is, this case will revolve on hard evidence.

Of course, these posters had no way of knowing that Westerfield had offered to tell the DA where the poor girls body was in exchange for a life sentence instead of the death penalty. You are right;every rapist has a first time. Maybe no woman had ever turned the basketball star down. How dare she after all he is kobe .....

I guess it would go right to the heart of the matter of which reporter's sources are legit or not.

If that's what you think, than I believe you have misread Ann. Or perhaps you just have difficulty interpreting irony.

I believe her typical point is that women tend to vote based on emotion rather than logic. In which case, she might have to consider the advisibility of your voting rights as well. *g*

And actually I'm sitting in a 3600 square foot house as I type -- and there are people here who can back that up because they've actually been here -- so you could say that at some point in my life I've been pretty damn successful using my brain.

YOOHOO, can you all verify #472 for me? I'm being called a liar and you guys KNOW how much I hate that!

Are we supposed to be impressed that you are sitting in a 3600 sq ft house? You could have bought a lottery ticket or married rich, you logic is once been weighed and measured and you came up lacking....Clinton was in the Whitehouse and that didn't prove he was smart to me only that there are tons of fools stupid enough to vote for him...you are loosing your arguments, resorting to name calling and just plain being "unsociable".... (sic)

Of course, the operative words being "known." There are still the 911 calls to account for.

Why would the mother check the daughters rump each morning? Do you think there is a history of that also or is it due to the probable discussion she had with the mother along with the show and tell? (buyer's remorse added of course)

She has mental problems, you are giving the sick woman too much credit in the thinking area.

There is anothe thread on FR that says Kobe and his wife were about to get divorced. He ruined his marriage by being a lying, cheating scoundrel. I don't know if Kobe is a rapist, but he is a liar and a cheater. As for the DA and the victim, we shall see what evidence turns up in court.
