The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Excuse me? I did not express or imply any need for groveling! There is no groveling in this scenario! Hair recommends letting the guy know he is welcome! *snicker*
sorry
Was baiting you for a reaction!
Now we have to help Rosie. Very important mission here. Perhaps we need single guy's help/advice too?

Yeah, but I liked how the comraderie developed between him and the others in the warrior group, including their 'commander' or whatever they termed him. The cool dog. The beautiful scenes of him in dreamstate. Stuff like that makes it all worthy of a watching.

I had always attributed Aragorn's longevity to his Elvish and Maiar blood. That was the source of it for all the Dunedan.
But, it is written - I suppose it's in the Akallabeth as well in the Simarillion that the Numenorians were gifted by Illuvatar with extended life spans. I believe this was the Elrosian heritage.

Rosie can use the newnewguy for an opening with the sister if that is more within her comfort zone...
"Say, sisterofguyIlike, there is this newguyImightlike who I have been talking with, but I just don't know.... it has made me realize that I really like your brother... and I wouldn't want to go too far down the road with thenewguyImightlike until I have at least explored it.

Definitely something to explore.
Also, how about
Yes friend, this is really interesting getting to know newguy in email etc. but, I'm a little hesitant to try developing a relationship with someone over a distance. I mean, if I knew he was a great guy like your brother............

Hi guys -- I leave for a week and you goand blow the old place up!! So how close is the Neverending Story.
Gladiator was essentially a remake of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire starring Steven Boyd as the hero (not a gladiator), Alec Guiness as Marcus Aurelius and Christopher Plummer and Sophia Loren as Commodus and his sister. Other than Boyd the acting was better in the earlier picture, and the writing was more intelligent, until late in the picture. Naturally, the special effects were better in Gladiator.
Just dropped in to say hello, I am late meeting Mrs. Sulla.

Too subtle, and sublety has not yet worked.... she isn't interesting in just 'some guy like the brother' she is interested in the brother.
Friendsbrother makes her twittery and newguy hasn't yet, but might later. And I don't think the distance is the difference. ;~D She is just looking both ways before she crosses.

Ping to Post #372 in our brand new Hole! These are some pictures from our chaplain that distributed the items we sent to Afghanistan on behalf of Free Republic and the Hobbit Hole. He will be coming home soon, but we hope to be put in touch with someone else so we can continue our efforts.
Our guy, called The Renegade Chaplain, is in the 5th picture.

I had always attributed Aragorn's longevity to his Elvish and Maiar blood.Well, sure, but people unfamiliar with genetics wouldn't necessarily describe it that way. ;)
From the Akallabêth:
This was the beginning of that people that in the Grey-elven speech are called the Dúnedain: the Númenóreans, Kings among Men. But they did not thus escape from the doom of death that Ilúvatar had set upon all Mankind, and they were mortal still, though their years were long, and they knew no sickness, ere the shadow fell upon them. Therefore they grew wise and glorious, and in all things more like to the Firstborn than any other of the kindreds of Men; and they were tall, taller than the tallest of the sons of Middle-earth; and the light of their eyes was like the bright stars. But their numbers increased only slowly in the land, for though daughters and sons were born to them, fairer than their fathers, yet their children were few.
continued...
Now Elros and Elrond his brother were descended from the Three Houses of the Edain, but in part also both from the Eldar and the Maiar; for Idril of Gondolin and Lúthien daughter of Melian were their fore-mothers. The Valar indeed may not withdraw the gift of death, which comes to Men from Ilúvatar, but in the matter of the Half-elven Ilúvatar gave to them the judgement; and they judged that to the sons of Eärendil should be given choice of their own destiny. And Elrond chose to remain with the Firstborn, and to him the life of the Firstborn was granted. But to Elros, who chose to be a king of Men, still a great span of years was allotted, many times that of the Men of Middle-earth; and all his line, the kings and lords of the royal house, had long life even according to the measure of the Númenóreans. But Elros lived five hundred years, and ruled the Númenóreans four hundred years and ten.
I take that to mean that while the people of Númenór had long life spans, the Kings of Númenór had even longer life spans that that. Whether that is a gift of genetics or a gift of the Valar is a discussion for another forum, I think. ;)
