In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Oh he was elder alright - 21 years my senior.
Why do you think I did not remarry until I was nearly 37?

I'm pretty sure that's a German derived word:
[German : Zeit, time (from Middle High German zt, from Old High German. See d- in Indo-European Roots) + Geist, spirit; see poltergeist.]
Particularly given that the French for spirit is esprit and time is temps.

You're all over the threads. Hanging out with the truckers today, I see. LOL!
Just teasing you, xs!
Did you notice that we are still in News/Activism. Have we been elevated to a new high here today?

well the age disparity was not good, probably. but i just mean, all things being equal, it bodes better for the success of a marriage to have the parties be more mature and settled into who they are going to end up being, than still be forming themselves. Don't get me wrong, there are going to be those that are jackasses no matter how old they get!

i didn't read it all either, but just enough to make me want to kick a few behinds. i HATE generalizing. someone on a lawyer thread today said ALL LAWYERS ARE OPPORTUNISTIC JERKS. NO EXCEPTIONS. i can lawyer bash with the best of them, but that is just plain STUPID to say stuff like that.

I saw your reply on that thread. If you notice in my comment I just referred to the ones involved in that symposium as bottum feeders - not all lawyers!!!!

i didn't see your reply, but i don't take the anti-lawyer comments of the classmates personally, because i am the first one to admit that the profession is CRAWLING with bottomfeeders. the same with women, there are scummy, conniving b!tches out there, but there are those male freepers that would have you believe that THERE ARE NO OTHER KIND. i wish them a lonely life, comforted by a sock. : )

Thank you, P-Son.
My dictionary, "Webster's Third International Dictionary and Seven Language Dictionary" showed this (I really mucked it up this time):
"[G. fr. zeit time (fr. OHG zit + geist spirit, fr. OHG -- more at tide, ghost]"
So I must have gotten confused. LOL! Thanks for the help. It is most appreciated.
The dictionary forgot to close its parenthetical, though. It's an old dictionary, but has been with me for years and years.

The only reason I even bothered with the thread was because the ones that held that so called symposium held an identical one several years ago about how to attack tobacco.
Which is why I was familiar enough with the subject to even venture a comment.

""[G. fr. zeit time (fr. OHG zit + geist spirit, fr. OHG -- more at tide, ghost]"Check too the "fr." (abbrv for "from Old High German") can be read too easily as "Fr." (French) ....
