Lone Star Chat
Texas ^ | Saturday, May 10, 2003 | A Texan

Rally for America!

Our Texas Locale page recently got very busy on the unusual topic of Ouija boards and such. Archy suggested a Lone Star Thread That Will Not Die. Like those darn Hobbit threads with 30,000+ posts.

This is not my thread and I'm not going to baby sit it every day. I just gathered the kindling and y'all have to start the fire.

Coyote ugly. Been there done that, it "aint" pretty.
The lucky ones do not remember what they did. Unfortunately when I would wake up I would think for about a minute and go, 'OH SHI-"

Aberden, Maracaibo, Venice Lousiana, Casper Wyoming, New Orleans, London, Lagos, Santa Cruz Bolivia, Mexico,Galway Ireland, Cap Feret France, Oman, Dubai, Egypt, Port Arthur, Larado, Morgan City, Grand Island, Golden Meadows, Mama Lulu's in Escrovos, The Dickens in Stavanger not to mention the old KNA and Esso motel in Stavanger Norway. (I did not need to chew my arm off in Norway) I am glad my youth did not kill me, but Lord it was fun. I think they made a song about it once. It was called, "THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND" we thought they would never end.

LOL and glad to be alive

Hey, Charlie!!
Good to see you, old pard!

As I was reading those names of places off I had memories of most of them, and a few you didn't cover.
We've been over a lot of the same ground and air and sea, old friend.

Ahh, drinking White Horse Scotch with ice block at Moma Lulu's in Escravos and watching those stupid green lizards run around on the walls, sitting on tree stumps on a dirt floor with a lantern for light!
I remember one night we were dancing on that dirt floor, and it started raining.
We never missed a step, just got a little slower when the mud got deep!
LOL!

Yep, those were the days, my friend.
And we truly thought they'd never end......

We got us a shoot comin' up on September 6th at San Antonio at the Bullet Hole Rifle Range.
I think Eaker is going to post a thread about it.
I hope you can make it.

Where is the bullet hole rifle range? Tell Eaker (I like his new name (nom de plum)"Breaker" to get his thread started.

PS
You might be oilfield trash if you ever had a drink at Mama Lulu's in Escravos. I had forgot about the mud but fortunately it was mostly sand and when it rained you only sank about 2 inches into it.

Yeah, I had forgotten about the sand, Charlie.
I always wore my steel toes when I went into Escravos, so I didn't mind the mud anyway.
One thing that did irritate me about the rain was that it made the girl's pallets wet.
(I think I coded that so no one who hadn't been there would know what I'm talking about! HA!)

The Bullet Hole Rifle Range is on West Highway 90.
It's about four miles west of Loop 410, and it's a little over 2 miles west of Anderson Loop.
Watch for Grosenbacher Road on the right.
Take that road a little over 2 miles to Bullet Hole on the left.
Here's the link to their Website:
Bullet Hole Firing Range

And here's the link to the pics I took:
Bullet Hole Firing Range

Hope you can make it, pard!

I just got this from a friend;

In other news, I opened a New York Times paper in the diner to find a full-page ad placed by MoveOn.org entitled "Don't Mess With Texas" with a picture of Pres. Bush interrupting a picture of the Lone Star flag. There is a long article about "an unprecedented power grab that would undo last year's Congressional elections." Subtitles are "The Bush Attack on Minority Voting Rights" (like any are reading The New York Times, hah!), "It's the worst setback for minority voting rights in four decades." "A Courageous Stand" (a few brave Texas State Senators have stalled this latest Republican attack on democracy. "Republicans vs. Democracy."

Has anybody seen anything about it on the forum??

Just got back on. ntnychik saw a full page ad in the NY Times. She tried to find it online so she could post it, but said it was too small to be readable. This was the Move-on ad praising the Chicken-D's, Texas Governor, etc.

Don't know if the Times is a morning or evening paper, but the Estrada thing should be in tomorrow.

This thread is a bit slow so I thought I would add a link. A fellow freeper interviewed me, and being a Texas resident, I thought some of you might want to read it - assuming you are having trouble sleeping or tired of watching Home Shopping Network reruns. Anyways here is the link: Conservative Views Interview Series: ChewedGum

Well, I tried! I just found out that you have to subscribe to get into the archives of The Victoria Advocate!! We already subscribe to the newspaper!! They had them listed August 26th and I cut them out.

Thanks. I'm picking up bits and pieces and which one's to vote yes for on FR but I wanted to see how they are phrased. Sometimes, the way they are worded is confusing. I used to just vote no on everything but I think they caught on that a lot were doing this :')

The Victoria Advocate does a good job of condensing them down to 'understandable', and then they tell you how to vote on them, LOL!! Since it is becoming more liberal, I don't take their advice!

It's a LONG sidebar with 22 amendments, so it would take a couple of scannings to email it to you and I don't know how readable it would be. I'm willing to try if you want it!?

Cindy, I just looked at the Boots and Sabers site on the amendments and it's pretty much like what I have here!

Here is an FR article that summarizes the amendments (and links to more detail)
and Texas Freeper discussion thread ...

Texas State Constitutional Amendments - Discussion Thread

That link should take you directly to post #25 for the summaries ...

Today is the last day for early voting. The election is September 13th (this Saturday).

That was a help but I'm still trying to figure out the deal with 6, 16 and 9 (I have two different versions of 9 - one is about veteran's land board and one is about something else)
