Well, since the Bible says (in answer to the question) "What doth hinder me from being baptized" with "If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest" there isn't any question about "interpretation". God has already spoken.

Valid baptism only follow belief.

Acts 8:12  But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Acts 8:13  Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.

Acts 18:8  And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.

"Wonder if he was already baptized as a baby, and was unaware that baptism cannot be repeated."

I've been baptised four times. First as a baby in an Episcopal church, then again at age 12, I was baptised in a Baptist church. They told me I was saved, and baptised me. Thirdly at age 45 when I KNEW I was saved. I gave my heart to Christ and turned my life over to him, and WANTED to be baptised. Fourth, when we went to Israel, we all got baptised in the Jordan River. I treasure numbers 3 and 4. There are no baby or child baptisms in the bible that I know of.

If you will note, I said If one IS saved. Not that it saves anyone. It doesn't. Trust me, I already got a bead on that one.

Try reading the entire thread before responding.

No. I don't want to waste time when what I want to respond to is right up front. You know, I read a thread from the top down. When I come to something that I believe merits a comment, I comment on it. I don't read through the entire thread first

a. to see whether someone else has already said what I was going to say and then not say it or
b. to see whether someone said something the opposite of what I was going to say or
c. to figure out the ratios of various responses and then decide what to say.

As far as a. is concerned, it's a good thing to see how many of the same type of comment one's remarks will garner. As far as b. is concerned, someone saying something to the contrary doesn't change my take on the subject. Why should I be quiet about it? As far as c. is concerned, it's a waste of time. It appears, your suggestion to the contrary, now that I have taken time to read through the thread--and it was pretty much a waste of time, that you're reacting as though my comment had been made in the context of all the other comments in the thread.

If my comments don't speak to the intent behind your statement above, then try saying something containing more information so one will know how to respond.

"I dont beleive God cares what your politics are..."

Admirably mushy and moderate you are, but of course, mistaken. Of course God cares about these things, or what's a hell for? (With appropriate apologies to the most admirable Robert Browning)

Wasn't he also in "Eight Seconds", the cowboy story? One of the Baldwin's did a great job in that movie.

"In the eyes of someone against all killing, Ds and Rs only disagree on when killing is okay"

Republicans support killing the guilty
Democrats: support killing the innocent

They probably had the post removed themselves, since they made them look so bad. Enough remain to show their true motives.

In churches that practice infant baptism, it's meant as a public covenant between the parents and the church. The act dedicates the child to Christ, and both the parents and congregation vow to be godly role models and bring the child up in a Christian home with the belief that the child will be saved one day. This is at least the practice in the Presbyterian Church of America.

In the eyes of someone against all killing, Ds and Rs only disagree on when killing is okay.

Regarding the hypothetical person who is "against all killing" in your statement, I'm not quite clear on what "against all killing" means. Is this person against the killing of household pests such as bugs and rodents? Is this person against the killing of animals used for food? Or are you talking specifically against killing of humans?

Assuming you mean simply the killing of humans, is this person against killing in self defense? Is this person against killing in order to protect others?

Your assertion that "Ds and Rs only disagree on when killing is okay" misses the point of disagreement completely. It isn't the timing that differentiates between abortion and capital punishment, it is the purpose of the killing and the party being killed. In the case of abortion, an innocent baby -- incapable of defending itself and a danger to nobody -- is killed for the convenience of the parent(s). In the case of capital punishment, a dangerous criminal -- who has already caused the death of innocents and who is a continuing threat to society -- is killed in order to protect the general public and to exact justice for the lives the criminal has destroyed.

When viewed in this manner, the liberal position that wholesale abortion on demand should be promoted with no restrictions whatsoever while capital punishment should be abolished is a folly of incredible proportions.

They generally focus on the "love thy neighbor" part of the gospel.

May I ask which part you focus on?
