During the main part of the war, we had more activity here than we did earlier this week. I think people were detaching from the news and taking a break from it all including ATRW.

That's GREAT!

What sort of thing is she hoping to do? It used to be that artists starved in garrets but now there are so many possibilities.

LOL! I got a quick glimpse of Harrigan in that helmut, and it was hilarious...but a better fitting helmut is essential to his safety.

The UMC has gone really far afield. There are individual churches that are still very sound ..... our "home" church in eastern NC is one example.

But 30 years ago, we tangled with the Board of Church and Society of the UMC. Hubby and I both wrote letters to the national office and to the statewide church publication, etc. Our church backed us up but our pastor at the time, a liberal weenie, only paid lip service to our concerns.

It was the Board of Church and Society that furnished the plane to fly Elian back to Cuba ..... one of the issues that we presented to our pastor when she asked us why we were leaving the UMC.

We recently got a note from her saying that we are missed and that if we're not happy with our new church, we're welcome to come back. Hubby sent her a polite note back telling her that we are delighted with our new church and have no intention of going back.

The report he gave this morning was about their group being attacked by "bandits" on the road from Baghdad to Syria. He showed the bullet and the hole in the vehicle where they were shot at.

He polled the other 3 in his group about whether or not they should go on or head back towards Baghdad. The other 3 wanted to forge ahead but Steve wanted to go back ..... his vote outweighed the others. He was asked what kind of democratic example that set ..... LOL! But on seeing his helmet, I can understand. He almost looks like a little kid who has put a pot on his head pretending that it is armor ..... :-) Surely FOX can do better than that by him!

Hi there,

I promised to inform you if and when I heard from the 2 LT.

I was awakened last night, and he was calling (Collect of course), and it was wonderful to hear from him. It is a strange thing to talk to someone so far away. There were a lot of strange sound effects in the background.

Anyhow, he seemed to be of good cheer, and he showed some concerns about his personal affairs back home. I took that to be a good sign.

I would like to thank you all for your good wishes and for your prayers.

Thank you all very much.

-Radix

My parents were missionaries with the Evangelical United Brethren (EUB) Church which later merged with the Methodists (and they added the "United" part of the EUB name). That would have been, I think, in 1968 and we made a family decision to switch to the local Baptist church at the time. My parents are still Baptists and have never had regrets. It's very funny, though, when they get together for some of their missionary reunions because those who stayed in the Methodist church are often worlds apart from where they started.

By the way, it's a UMC church I'm preaching at in June, but I have no doubts that it's one of the very sound congregations in that denomination.

Here is the Liberal mindset on this war, and on Syria.

The Left will never admit that the war was caused by Saddam Hussein. The intellectual box they have created says that the War was Bush's creation, and no matter what Hussein did war could not be avoided. They say Bush was decided upon war prior to going to the UN, and that everything that resulted was a result

They fail to understand that this President does as he says. Therefore they cannot see that had Hussein complied with 1441, we would not have gone to war. President Bush defined that choice. Hussein's decided. Bad choice.

The same logic flows into the Syrian situation. The Administration will give Syria every opportunity to avoid war. We will push, box, and nail them into -- not a corner, but a doorway. They either choose it or not. Open the door, and we have a workable peace agreement with Isreal, PLO, Syria, and Jordan, with full recognition of the State of Isreal and a Palestinian State. Refuse that door, we will have war. The cause will not be a refusal to recognize Isreal. It will be a refusal to cough up Iraqi WMD and leadership, and to cut of Hizballa (sp? whatever, those thugs). The choice will be Syria's.

The Left cannot understand this for they cannot understand the President's motivations. They think that he wants only war. They cannot comprehend that the only way to avoid war and to make peace -- two separate acts -- is to be serious about waging war. Be ready for some serious whining over the next year.

In the end, it will be to the President's benefit. Just as this war would not have happened without France's defense of Saddam, a lasting Middle East peace will not come without the Left pushing its obtuseness to its logical end, failure. Once that happens, Syria will walk the President's walk.

Being that you are a writer I thought I would pass this on to you. I took the kids and gd to Natchez and Vicksburgto the battlefields of the cil war. I have never seen a 7 year old so engrossed in the history of these places. I got turned around a couple of times and retraced my route and she would tell me all about the monument we had passed before and were passing again. Never have I seen anything like this. I do hope her learning desires continue. She is outpacing her class in shcool by leaps and bounds and I think my d is going to home school her next year. Oh, she told me she wanted to be a writer when she grew up.

Criticims as a party tactic has never worked. Look at the last Governors race in California. Criticism could not even defeat Gray Davis and the Democrats think it will defeat President Bush.
Amen.

While Bob Dole didn't, the Republican party ran on cricitism of Clinton in '96, and again in '98. Bush/Rove made sure this mistake was not repeated. Back then, I was incensed by the comment of my best friend, an important political type. He told me that he was hoping for Dole to lose so that we'd win in '00. And this while his father was on the platform committee of '96. He was right. Dole offered no solutions. My friend knew that there was nothing we could offer back in '96 that would resonate, and that we'd have far more to offer in '00. I have to say it takes guts to have made that assessment back then. I still don't like it, but he was right.

To my view, CT, politics are 95% situation and 5% position. And that 5% is the key -- the difference between 46% and 51% of the vote. The principled stand must always accompany the political opportunity. And vice versa.

Thanks for your thoughts, as always.

I've so enjoyed your descriptions of the Vicksburg trip -- and now this. A wonderful story!

Vicksburg marked the turn of the war, more, I think, than Gettysburg. It also marked the division of the nation. Is it true the story that city didn't celebrate the 4th of July until the 1940s?

I love that of the writer-ambitious girl you met. I was with old friends this weekend. One told me that he always remembered how I wanted to be a writer. I had forgotten, and I had no idea that others knew it at the time.

That child has the crucial skill of a writer: she is an observer. Fabulous. Thanks for telling the story. Please say more.

Radix, I continue to keep your son and ohio's Eric in prayer.
How wonderful you heard from him!

kay....I can only say how blessed our family has been to join the Presbyterian Church ..(PCA) denomination 15 years ago, and the changes it has brought in all our lives.

We heard the Gospel preached, we heard Truth, and the teaching was outstanding!

We learned Life lessons that have sustained our family for many years.

continue...

My husband truly came to know the Lord when we joined the PCA church.

This led him to Men's Bible Study..(he has been part of one at lunchbreak at work for years & years now)

...He devoted himself to studying the Bible.....and reading lots of Christian works.

He dearly loves hymns and praise music, both.

This has all helped him overcome a very difficult & troublesome childhood.

God has brought him peace through His Word.

And most precious of all, he has been the best kind of example & guide to the children & me.

You be a policeman for a month and you will become a Christian, that is if you have any idea who God is. I was born and raised in a Baptist church, trusted the Lord, became a policeman and DEPENDED on the Lord for all I was going through, the things I would see and faced with. Coruse having a Christian wife didn't hurt.
