AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 816) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | April 16, 2003 | All of Us

Posted on 04/16/2003 4:12:58 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

ABU ABBAS, THE MASTERMIND OF THE ACHILLE LAURO HIJACKING, IS CAPTURED IN IRAQ

LARGE TERRORIST TRAINING FACILITY DISCOVERED JUST OUTSIDE BAGHDAD

Representatives from the United States, North Korea, and China will be meeting in China next week.

American forces shut down an illegal oil pipeline serving Syria.

President Bush and President Chirac spoke for the first time in two months yesterday; the conversation was described as "business-like."

The Palestinian Authority insists that Washington free Abu Abbas, saying it violates the Oslo Peace Accords, signed by UOx42.

Speaking of the former President, at a forum by Conference Board, he made the following remarks:

"We can't run. If you got an interdependent world, and you cannot kill, jail or occupy all your adversaries, sooner or later you have to make a deal."

And: He said he believed Washington overreacted to German and French opposition to US plans for military action against Iraq.

And, the topper(!): "Since September 11, it looks like we can't hold two guns at the same time. If you fight terrorism, you can't make America a better place to be."

I'm not making that stuff up, folks!

But unlike him...

We will not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

I was doing a little investigative work tonight and found that the word for hospitality in Titus 1:8 is 'philoxenos.' You don't have to be a Greek scholar to figure out the parts of the word, right? 'Philos' is love (or lover of sth.) and 'xenos' is foreigner or alien (from which we get "xenophobic"). It is translated hospitality or "lover of guests," but I can't figure out any reason why it shouldn't mean what it looks like it would mean, "lover of foreigners" because I don't find uses of 'xenos' for guests or people outside the family unit.

I think this qualification for overseers (bishops or whatever term is used) is actually to be a lover or welcomer of foreigners. One of the greatest hindrances to the spread of the gospel at the time (and even now) was an unwillingness to go outside one's comfort zone, especially for Jews to mix with gentiles, but also in other ways.

Comments? I'm thinking about my sermon, see.

I define yankee as someone born outside of the seceeding states of 1861 - 1865.

However I was wrong. I was dealing in stereotypes that I don't even believe myself. I should not have said what I said. I apologize.

I have heard a yankee as defined in this manner:

To a person outside of the US, a yankee is someone from the US,
To a southerner, a yankee is someone from the north.
To a northerner, a yankee is someone from New England
And to a New Englander, a yankee is someone who eats apple pie for breakfast.

How odd that you should mention "Titus" tonight.

You see, this is the website Midge's (Mary Jane's) friends had set up to help keep her friends and family updated on her condition.

Prayers lifted, Mozie.

As far as happy thoughts go.... This year, we have determined that the June bugs have been eating catnip. The cats don't know whether to roll in them, or eat them. Trill brought in 6 junebugs. One for each cat. Rebel is going to get fat. He's the first one that remembered junebugs are good eats. He got most of them. ;>)

A yankee is anyone north of the Red River that choses to be there. ;>)

lol

For heaven's sake, you've done nothing requiring an apology.

I'm just curious; because around here, a yankee is definitely someone who lives in New England; but occasionally I here references to yankees being anyone who lives in a northern state.

Your definition makes sense.

But I'm glad your cats are happy.:)

And on that note, I AM leaving and going to bed.

Fourteen angels to you, dear Johnny.

I'm not good with Greek, but I follow your argument. It came from somewhere. What does the Lord tell you?

I pray for you to touch souls with your sermon.

I have a question about a feature at FR. We seem to have a few very chatty Tennessee freepers who often get a good conversation going on the Tennessee Freepers page. Those comments (or the latest one) often shows up at the top of the page when I go to My Comments and they are often so long - like a whole article long - so I have to scroll way down just to actually see posts to or by me. I'm not really interested in any of these posts, but if I was I'd go to that page and follow the conversation. I can refresh the page a few times to get to the end of these posts, but that seems like too much trouble.

So the question is, can I somehow disable this thing and still have the Tennessee flag flying from my homepage and be listed on the Tennessee Freeper page?

Thank you. I did say it in front of others. One of the other teachers threw her carrot at me. As the speaker was continuing to pontificate, I mouthed an apology at the carrot-thrower. She said she knew I wasn't serious and that is why she intentionally missed me.

BTW, I eat apple pie for breakfast.

Or cold lasagna.<p.I have to go now and try to write that stupid essay.

It's a missions sermon, see, and I really think this idea of "lover of foreigners" is essential. But translators often look at a word like 'philoxenos' and say, What? We don't have a word that means that. They must have been using 'xenos' metaphorically for guest cuz who ever heard of a "lover of foreigners?" We've got a good word, though, that means "lover of guests" so let's use that.

I love and respect Bible translators and I've studied their art quite a bit, but I take some things they put into English with a big grain of salt.

I'm off to bed....again. Tried an hour ago to sleep, but couldn't. I gotta get up extra early and drive to Nashville for that 9 AM postal exam so should be doing my best to get a bit of shut eye.

Do you see something that says "If you do not wish to receive notification of new messages in this locale, click here."? It's right above the box with all the messages on the state page. Click on that and see if it fixes your problem with the chatty FReepers.

I used to have that checked and found out it was a nuisance.
