OK all you freepers who where claiming ES was somehow a willing participant, easily dupped, or a runnaway.
Here is your chance to show us how mature and adult you can be. read this http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/867965/posts?q=1&&page=51#14 then post here to admit your error and apologize. I will freely forgive anyone who does so.
Actually, there were three composites, from three family members who had seen Mitchell when he worked there. They were all quite different. The one that was released wasn't really that good. It was the name "Emmanuel" that caught the interest of Mitchell's stepchildren. Without the name, I seriously doubt anyone would have recognized the composite. The stepchildren immediately contacted the police and began cooperating and supplying pictures of the guy in his Jesus garb.
See what I mean, alnick?
demkicker's already calling AC a "prick."
I just don't get this kind of anger. It's almost like somebody's got a bet going.
Your comments are misdirected. My logic is not flawed at all -- my problem is that I've used perfectly clear logic in a case where it may not apply because of all the other circumstances. But don't just shrug it off -- this is precisely the kind of logic that may very well be used by a good defense attorney to get this Mitchell freak off the hook.
What is interesting about cases like this is that people reflexively decide that the person in question (usually it's a defendant) is not acting in a fully rational manner for one reason or another, without realizing that this assumption also makes anything else this person says suspect.
Kind of like the defense attorney who argues that his client is insane (to keep him out of prison or out of the electric chair), but then goes back the next day and argues that the client is perfectly normal (to keep him out of a mental hospital).
Nope. If you're on the thread, you're in the experiment.
But, the experiment is getting so predictable, it's going to get boring soon.
DMWT is telling AC to get off the thread. Who knows? AC may be giggin' the rest of you with a stick. Just to get some kind of reaction. That's an interesting angle.
The first banning is coming soon.
There might be some exceptions, but every post I read that allegedly "questioned ES's decency" was nothing of the sort. In fact, every one of us agreed that this Mitchell character should face criminal charges regardless of what the facts of the case were.
No, it really doesn't. She saw him one day for a few hours. She was traumatized. Maybe -- maybe -- she had seen him around town. It was dark. Maybe it took a while for her to finally remember the guy who worked on the roof for a few hours.
These little things are typical things. People's memories are not absolutely perfect at all times in all ways. Little details can be distorted by memory, and then click later.
This is a nine-year-old child.
Now, if you want to wonder about it that's one thing, but to spin wild tales based on little things that are all easily explained, well I don't know what to tell you, except that in the end, the little girl's memory saved the day, didn't it.
There never is. These threads allow me to add to my vocabulary of desultory insults.
After being psychologically dominated by a violent, sexually abusive kidnapper for the better part of a year, she'd be lucky not to be pretty messed up.
Elizabeth Smart called herself "the girl that ran away," but she wasn't necessarily telling the truth. The sick freak called himself "Jesus," but he wasn't necessarily telling the truth.
Sincerely,
A. Einstein
There is no way an innocent, sweet 14 year old girl like Elizabeth would be the same after 9 months of that kind of experience. Any jury will see that.
I have not followed the discussion here at FR about this case until she was found alive.
The same phenom you refer to above was evident in the Danielle van Dam kidnap/murder threads, here, too.
Watch how quickly the same people who insist that the younger sister was "traumatized" when it comes to explaining the inaccuracies in the story start insisting that she is the most reliable witness in this case when it comes to putting the perp in jail.
Just as many of the same people who know that Mitchell is a freak are falling all over themselves to explain that it was perfectly reasonable for the parents to hire the guy to work on the house.
So far, my opinion is that she was forcibly removed from her home by coercion, he was kept in isolation camp for a couple of months, and after indoctrinated, she became a blind follower of this creep. The details revealed today are more gruesome that I expected.
I had avoided to consider sexual assault in my mind; I felt sick reading this article
Elizabeth needs our prayers, and the Smart family will benefit for professional counseling.
