After reading this post: "San Antonio DJ Pulls The Plug On The Dixie Chicks(Clear Channel FM Flagship--It's Over, Folks)", I thought I should post this email I just got from my local CC . It's NOT over. Clear Channel is NOT issuing any orders regarding the Saddam Sluts. Sounds like KJ 97 in Dallas is just pulling a gimmick, and the Vichy Chicks will be back on the air in days.
Hi [Timesink]:Of course, with CC one never knows if the author of the email is being honest, acting as directly ordered from CC HQ, or acting on orders of the local CC warlord (who in my city doesn't seem to be particularly respected, judging from the local radio shoptalk BBS). It's common knowledge that CC goons read all their outgoing emails, so they have to tread very lightly.Thank you very much for taking the time to write to WTCR - we appreciateyour input and thank you very much for your continued listenership.
Regarding the Dixie Chicks and their recent comments about President Bush and their perception of world opinion of the U.S.; WTCR's parent company, Clear Channel Communications, has advised us to remain patriotic not political. One of America's freedoms is the right of its citizens to give his or her opinion without fear of reprisal - in this case the removal of an artist's music from the airwaves.
The Dixie Chicks statements are, admittedly, an emotional and potentially divisive issue, but it is not the policy of WTCR (through Clear Channel) to respond regardless of our personal opinions.
Again, thank you for expressing your opinion; WTCR values your input.

In any event, it's obvious that my CC station isn't dumping the Chunks, so don't expect yours to do so either.
Not yet anyway......Soon, very soon, they will be.
Anyone that bought a CD recently should return it for a full credit. The heck with destroying it. They get the money anyway that way....
Returning it will get their record companies attention.
I just emailed the guy to congratulate him and suggest he post the auction to eBay Germany and eBay France, offering the albums as "rare imports."

This is stupid. There is no such "right" of protection against economic retaliation for offensive statements.
Citizens boycott sponsors of offensive TV programs. The Leftists have tried to get advertisers to drop conservative talk shows. This is completely within their rights as citizens to strenuously object to what someone says in the exercise of his own right of free speech.
WTCR's careless misconstrual of the rights contained in our First Amendment is un-American trash.
(Timesink, why don't you send them this post as a reply?)
Because, like I said, CC has goons at all levels of management that monitor its employees' email interactions with listeners. I don't want to do anything that would put the poor guy at even a 1% chance of getting in trouble.
Oh, look, the Mods have just ghettoized this thread. But did they ghettoize the original? Hell no! no favoratism on FR!
Thats because, by my estimation probably 80% of the C.W. listeners are pro-Iraq-liberation, and turned OFF by their hate speech.
I base this on:
I should also point out that this language is a smarmy misrepresentation of the controversy. C&W music fans are not complaining about the Dixie Chicks' perception of world opinion. Rather, we are angry at Maines's personal, public maligning of the President of the United States.
Texans are especially angry. Since her group is specifically identified with Texas--which fact she also brought forward when she maligned our President-- MANY of us Texans are now ashamed that the Dixie Chicks are from Texas.
Far too many jet-setting celebrities are speaking against their homeland just because it seems the cool thing to do overseas (where a lot of anti-American sentiment is found, of course). Well, if they can't take the pressures of representing the United States and Texas in a more noble way, they should stay off the world stage--and maybe stay off the stage altogether. We Texans demand that they stand up and represent the United States and Texas with real pride, not just toss out the sniveling, thoughtless complaints which have become so common from bleeding-heart types.
We furthermore maintain that it is people like the Dixie Chicks who are manifestly so unpatriotic as to speak without bothering to notice that they are giving add and comfort to Sean Penn's buddy Saddam Hussein, who is one of the worst monsters in world history. And by playing directly into the hands of the anti-American spirit which they have seen in their travels, the Dixie Chicks are ultimately even endangering our own troops--not supporting them.
WTCR needs to re-think the whole thing.
That was my first thought, too. We've been at was for at least 10 years now, though some only figured it out on 9-11.
