The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!
Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Journey to the Cross-roads
The Two Towers Edition
Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)
Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Are you sure there isn't a link to that site somewhere in the fine print on the TolkienTown page?
To: JenB; Overtaxed
Actually, Elves cannot fly. Um, I didn't mean fly. I just meant cause they were...well...so light on their feet...so to speak...
To: HairOfTheDog
My thoughts too. How do you find these things?? lol, that was a goofy but fun one.
To: Corin Stormhands
Hmmm... perhaps you should talk to some of the high and noble Elves of the Silmarillion? Like, say, Feanor and his seven sons... who coincidentally were at least partly responsible for much of the slaughter in the First Age....
Sheesh, can't you Dwarves think up better slanders than that?

Sheesh, can't you Dwarves think up better slanders than that? Of course we can, but we're holding the elf-bashing to a minimum.

Yes, I recall two on his back and one at the waist, smaller. I don't remember where from I have seen them listed somewhere.

After bathing and putting the baby to bed, cleaning up the post-babysitting mess, washing and sterilizing bottles, etc - I finally have a chance to post.
First off, I did take pictures but they have to be developed. I'll do that tomorrow and post the pics then.
Sam and his lovely wife arrived first at the restaurant, and they were nice enough to put their names down on the waiting list. Thank goodness they did, for it was a half hour or more wait! Glen and I arrived shortly after, followed by ksen, his sweet wife and beautiful daughter.
We had a delicious lunch and then went down the street to the theatre and bought our tickets. We killed the extra time by chatting, going into the arcade and buying our theatre munchies! :)
We got great seats, best in the house, IMHO. And the movie started on time and we all enjoyed the film.
Of course, something always goes less than perfect and in our case the auditorium where The Two Towers was playing had a blown speaker, which resulted in any low-bass sounds coming out as crackling static. This was especially horrible in scenes with the flying Nazgul, since every wing flap "thwump" was replaced with "KKKKCCCHHHHHHHHH!!!" Arrrrrgh!
As if that weren't bad enough, someone left their cell phone on and it rang at least 4 times in the theatre. And the owner of the phone didn't even answer it! Just let it ring and ring and ring. AAArrrrrgggh!
And THEN, the guy (who we believe to also be the cell phone owner) sitting in front of ksen's wife decided to start scolding his kids in a furious whisper. Aaaaarrrggghh!
After the movie, I went to the manager and can you believe that he KNEW the speaker was bad?! Sheesh! The least he could have done was put the movie in a different auditorium, but I guess that would have taken an actual (GASP!) effort on his part.
Despite all of the nuisances, the movie was great - and made only better by knowing that the folks I was sitting with love the film as much as I do.
I can't wait for Entmoot where we can ALL be together. If tonight was any small indication of the fun that awaits, we are all in for a really excellent time next January!

As an old teen myself ;), when I say "kid" I mean, oh, 12 or soShe's just fixing to turn 15, and she knows more about the books than I do! She's read each at least once, and is beginning the trilogy again. This time, I'll have her do book reports and use that reading for schoolwork. I got a copy of the Silmarillion for her last year, and she's been reading through that as well! She's a Legolas fan.

How many axes does Gimli carry, anyway? I wondered that myself because watching the movie yesterday, I noticed that when the three hunters turned to attack the 'White Wizard', Gimli threw an ax and Gandalf broke it in flight. But then when it showed Gimli again, after they realized it was Gandalf, he was holding another ax!

No wonder Gimli lagged behind the rest...he was toting all those axes!

Thanks for the post Mini-moot report! Sorry about the problems with the theater and patrons (it's always something, isn't it?). Can't wait to see the pictures of the admirable Hobbit Hole Dwellers!

It was a lot of fun and it went by pretty quick. Next minimoot has to be longer so we have more time to talk to one another! :)
But, then again, I love to talk. If you don't believe me, you can ask Sam or ksen. LOL!

Does she like SF? There's a lot of really good stuff out that is about right for her age - I'm basing this on what I enjoyed at her age nsince what I've heard of her reminds me of me.
Ender's Game, Foundation, Dune... there's a number of things she could read if you're not "stuffy" about science fiction.
I remember one year, my mom was unhappy because every other book on my list was something with "Dead" or "Death" or "Fall" in the title...

I envy you... We missed mooting and made up a lot of really lame songs about it!

Without a moot of my own.

No need to make up songs! Entmoot is on its way! *grin*
My personal favorite:
When you get caught between the moot and New York City
I know it's crazy, but it's moot
When you get caught between the moot and New York City
The best that you can do is minimoot.

You are my ent-moot,
My only ent-moot
You make me happy
When skies are gray
You'll never know, dear
How much I love you
Please don't take
My ent-moot away
