The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

My buddy's been told that his mom will probably die this weekend (from Alzheiners), so I guess she could use some prayer.

I'll be praying for a peaceful death for you buddy's Mom. I know she will be glad of the release, just seeing how my Mama is right now still in the earlier stages of the disease. I will also pray for peace for your buddy and the rest of his family.

All further discussion will do is get me all "het up" and there are already enough things in my life to do that.

Yes, it is unhealthy and self-destructive to get all "het up" with strangers... ;~D

We went kayaking this morning at a little pond in town. I had such fun! The Pungo 140 was SO comfortable! The seat that comes in it is advertised as a 'lounge chair', and it certainly feels that way! I could sit in that thing all day and my back would feel just fine. The boat tracks well, and just slides across the water, even when heading straight into the wind!

We just got done moving the office - the phones aren't set up but everything else is good to go! Now I'm going to the used bookstore, they're closing this week and I need to check for anything I'd like.

I just got in from picture taking around town with Frodo. And took him with us to buy my back door for my back deck, that is supposed to be built and finished by Monday. I'm so delighted. It is looking great. I will soon have an exit from my living room onto a 10X20 foot deck with a stairway into my back yard. Something I've asked for years to be built.

My plans for Mexico have been slighly delayed. We leave at 5pm and check into a room this evening - get up early and do Mexico for only one afternoon tomorrow.

That will have to suffice though. The whole deck building thing is delaying us. I think it will be fine. I'm happy with what I have so far.

Frodo is tough to keep upright at the beach!! I found a heavy towel in the truck and looped it through the bottom hole to stabilize him some. It worked pretty well.

I've been cooking all day! Eggplant. It seems our eggplants (two plants) have decided to dump all the eggplants on us at one time! LOL So now I've got eggplant to cook up. I'm making more parmesiana and an eggplant lasagna. I start off slicing the eggplant into rounds and dipping it into egg, then italian bread crumbs. Then I deep fry it in hot oil and the let it drain. (At this point, Steve commences to snackin' on it) Then I layer it either with provalone slices and plain spaghetti sauce (for the parmesiana) or noodles, ricotta, spaghetti sauce with ground beef and grated mozzarella if lasagna. Heat it through till bubbly!

I'm gonna have to freeze some of it though...I've got five more eggplants waiting to be picked in the next week!

And I'm tired of that debate already. This is why I don't venture out of the Hobbit Hole often, my friend. He hasn't changed my mind, I can see I won't change his, so what's the point?

I'm there with you on that point bubba.

Super time Suzi! I am thinking of taking my kayak out for a day this week. A friend from back home wants me to go down and go to the drive-in Monday night. I was thinking that I would take my kayak with me and paddle in the old places. It would be a good thing for me.

It's all pretty much cooked when you put it in the dish...the meat is browned, the eggplant is fried...the cheese and the sauce just has to melt together and it has to toast a bit on top to be perfect...

It's going to be great!

Steve took the boys swimming. I'm making vanilla ice cream with the last of the cream we bought last week...in my little Donvier.

Just wanted to make sure you were on the "invite" list. Sorry ya had a bad week but the deck sounds lovely and an afternoon in Mexico would not be bad either!

ha, I knew you would understand. I got a lot of shots with him on the way down.

I planned to have all the local shots done already. But when the guys went to N.C. last weekend, they left the digital camera in someones boat-hold. We just got it back yesterday. Oh well.

I fried up a bunch of okra and onions with sausage then then stewed in some tomatoes this afternoon. Made some rice to go with it. Also, fixed up some pasta, half of it for a cold pasta salad to go with the maters and peppers coming in from the garden. The other half of the pasta with some spaghetti sauce that's been in the freezer since I cooked up all the food for company back in May.

So, I got a fridge full of meals for myself this week. That will be handy.
