The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

ROTFL! Khazad-Dum - Frodo's Harem

So we slip in and there's our trio standing about six feet away under a camera crew filming the interview. And my god these lads are beautiful in the flesh. Sean looked positively stunning, fit and handsome as all get-out in a white brimmed hat, T-shirt and baggy khaki shorts, Dom was a little scruffier in his good-natured charming way, T-shirt and jeans, and Elijah, oh lord help me, but he's beautiful, in tight jeans and a fitting white striped short sleeved shirt--all eyes and cropped hair and trim little line of facial fuzz. They all have their arms about each other and Kevin and the interview is wrapping up and Elijah is saying, "Hey, I want copies of these photos!"

The crew begins to break up and Elijah looks over at Dom and gets this little minx grin and says "I'm going for it!" And to everyone's shock leaps out of the curtain and sprints down the convention concourse as fast as his little legs can carry him (which is damn fast) whooping with glee while three security guards all in black race after him followed by the entire line of screaming fans. Meanwhile, the New Line people are standing there in shock, mouths agape, mumbling "Where is he going?! Where is he going?!? Security!! Security!!"

Leah and I were bent over with laughter, it was the funniest thing we'd ever seen. I guess, later we found out, that Elijah being the game player geek he is, was dying to get out on that floor and had decided to make a break for it despite New Line's assertion that doing so would create a security problem of Con-wide proportions. Which it evidently did, getting New Line folks into very hot water with the Con security people. Not that they could do anything about it. Elijah, essentially escaped. I heard later that he was mobbed of course although he managed to claw his way to the ROTK gaming booth to play a few minutes of the demo they had running there next to the main New Line booth and tower of Orthanc. Somehow Dom also got down there, but their adventure was short lived as hoards of fans were tearing down the walls to get at them. Very funny to me, but not so funny to New Line who were plainly freaked out. They later told Elijah he could go out on the floor if he agreed to wear a full masked costume like half the attendees, but I never heard if he did that or not.

It's kind of disturbing to read about how the guys are kept away from everybody/thing. Maybe it was only for that event.

I wonder how much this kind of seclusion goes on in their real lives?

I didn't get the feeling there was that much seclusion, if you recall, Elijah and Sean just 'showed up' in the line at the premier of Attack of the Clones, and Sean Astin had a limo drop he and his family off and picked them up again at that Portland thing I went to, but there was not extraordinary security around him and his family... I think the bouncers that kept people from following him out the back were regular theater staff - high school kids.

I think it is just events like this that are so big and so packed with people most likely to mob them, perhaps (14 year old girls).... Even the people running the Con didn't like the disruption of them just 'wandering around'.

Maybe it was only for that event.

Probably so... this was the San Diego ComicCon, and that's the biggest annual comics/gaming/media con in the country. There were probably several thousand fan people attending, with a lot of them on the gaming floor or nearby. You can imagine the stir of a couple of thousand fanboys and fangirls all turning around to watch Frodo fleeing from security guards... and then all of them moving to get a closer look. Could have been a big mess... wish I'd been there.

The knives (for the troops) have arrived!!! Super-fast service from Smokey Mountain, and it was just their "regular" delivery mode.

The good news is, these pocketknives are nice. The bad news is, there will be NO room for any engraving except for a URL. I'm making an executive decision, and will take two samples to the engraver for a test, one laser, one regular. I'll post pictures of the results when I get back.

Basically, the manufacturer used the entire back side of the blade for "advertising", along with a large logo on the front. Those are laser engraved, too. The only available space is on the frame, or a part of the front of the blade. You folks can vote on the results when I post the pictures.

Just thought I'd keep you informed of "breaking news".

I noticed that in your humor section on your website that you don't have that spoof 'The Hobbit' trailer.... The one that is set to that Requiem for a Dream music and has bits cut in from FoTR and Dragonslayer? "The Hobbit, Directed by Peter Jackson... Coming Dec 19, 2006?

Its funny, and I have it, if you don't - mpeg file, 18 megs.

I'm using:

freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net

I figure that gets them quickest to our troop support page, and from there to FR. But this is just for two test knives. Once you see the results, let me know if we can do better.

Aaaaaaah! I need a break. Making progress on the report, but keep getting interrupted by emails from catty women who only want to whine about the way I'm organizing a series of training seminars. They didn't volunteer for the job. Although, they're about to be volunteered for refreshments, muahahaa.

Is it the weekend yet?
