The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Morning!

Missed the show last nite, but saw it previously. Yup- that's an Australian Cattle Dog. So ugly they're cute. Smart, though.

I bought up some adorable fabric to make kerchiefs for our two. That'll be one of my projects this weekend.

Morning All, will be back tomorrow probably.

Flag came yesterday, I want to say a little more about it, but am too rushed to be coherent at the moment. But it is cool. You made a good thing happen, 2J.

See you guys in a little, have a great Saturday, everyone.

Has that ostrich thing been around here yet?

Morning all.

I'm going to have to find something to do today. Sitting around the house doing nothing is not going to get me over Grama's death and my kids being fallen out with me any faster. So, I gotta go find something to do.

Priority one is finishing some things at the office. Then I guess instead of either going to the park or a movie alone I should call someone to go with me..... even though I haven't met anyone here that I particularly look forward to hanging out with.

I will check in from the office.

Mornin'. You could come and heal my yard. Seriesly though, get out, go somewhere. That'll help. I'd be happy to find a river or a lake (or preferably the ocean) to sit beside and just veg. But that's me.

I've been out hunting and gathering (wife's birthday today). I'm certain I will not have hunted nor gathered the right stuff nor the right card...sigh. But it's done.

Soon as I finish my coffee (okay, I never finish, just decide not to have another cup), I'm going to mow.

This is LSAggie posting for osagebowman--he is pleased to report that the Missouri mini-moot is in full swing!!

Osage says that he may have captured pictures of Mrsnad flinging an atl-atl, and g'nad was delighted to see children throwing tomahawks at the very first camp they came to. The dwarflings are "into" the bows and arrows and perfecting their technique.

The mini-moot had first (or second) supper at The Round-up Cafe and were treated very well, thanks to all the waitresses coming by to "ohh & ahh" over "thenewboy". The manager was so taken with the dwarflings he gave them oreo cookies!!

That's all to report for now, everyone seems to be fine and having a good time.

Thanks for the report! I didn't realize g'nad took the whole family...would have put a damper on us going up there to keep mrs and the kids company. Wouldn't have prevented us going...just wouldn't have been as much fun there by ourselves...

LOL Just kidding...

Sounds like they are having a great time!

Just got back from a nice romp in the park. We've decided that we're going to have to get in series shape to keep up with these two canines.

Here's a pic:

Sadie is running toward the camera, Jack is in the distance.

Here's another of Sadie.
She's pretty spry for an old, retired ...er, gal. Scrappy, too.

And here's the big boy, Jack.

The cutest part is how much they adore Big'ol. He's Alpha of our pack.

Primitive Weapons - Atlatl Page

Great dog day pics LilFreeper! - Good morning!

WNeighbor, I wish I could come down there and take you to a movie.

This is something I thought about doing, but didn't. You may steal the idea if you wish. Go to Sams Club or Wal Mart and buy one of those cheap 3 cents a minute phone cards. Mail it to the chaplain. They start at $10. You won't have to hunt for a box. I don't know if you need to fill out a customs form for it or not (I doubt it)--the guy at the Post Office will know, and he has the forms and can help. Send the phone card in a letter or a Thinking of You card and tell the chaplain to use it as he sees fit. If the guys need it to call home, they can use it. If a spouse in the States needs it to call her mother in Podunk, IN, she can use it. Take the printout from 2JM with you so you'll have the addresses. Just an idea, but it is quick.

Now you know why I keep reading those Harry Potter books, huh? What do you think?

Gonna take my brothers to a movie today, and track down the info on the author signing at B&N Monday. Also our cable is out so I need to call them.

I've only seen atlatls in museums! I had no idea people made/played with them. But then I had the same impression about lacrosse before I moved to the east coast.

Funny website, you found:

The bikini babe buttons were very cute indeed, glad you liked it! - I think the chick with the atlatl appears capable of making the kill and dragging it back to camp eh?

Mornin'. You could come and heal my yard.

You know. I would actually really enjoy that. Working in a yard with a friend.

But seriesly, the lake or river idea sounds a lot better. After I got to puttering around the house getting ready to leave this morning I thought of the long-unused kayak in the garage. And how nice it would be to spend the day in it. Alas, no good places within 100 miles of here. But, decision is made to take it out within the next few weeks. I have too many days off not to drive someplace and paddle a day away.

Now, all that stuff sounds fun too. In retrospect, why didn't I think of it earlier. It is only appropriate that an elf should have made the trek to Legolas Moot. Hindsight is not only 20-20, sometimes it's a pain.

You have to make sure you get the calling cards for international use that covers the country that they might be used in. Some have been sent to Iraq that don't work in Iraq.
