The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I'm so glad you are OK! Thanks for checking in!

And yes, please do let me know when you get your flag...it makes my whole day.

I tell you, these flags couldn't go to a better group of people. I told the chaplain that you all would really love and honor the gift. I think I know you all well enough to say that!

Mine flew on the 7th of June.

Mine was 2 days after yours. I didn't unfold yet even though those guys at work know how to refold right. I will though. I am just soaking it up the way it is for now.

Well Corin, we'll just keep praying. If you're up to the challenge and want the job then we'll pray you're in a group narrowed down to 1!

Sounds promising, as such things go. I know it's impossible to know how the people your interviewing with are thinking.

I got called today for an interview on Friday, it's for a Vice President position with a local credit union. I really don't think I have any chance at all. I'm interviewing with the Senior VP, who worked at the legislature here when I did many years ago. We know a lot of the same people...who are calling in support for me. But...he was appointed to his previous position (a cabinet position, a big step up for him) by the same sitting Governor for whom I am now public enemy #1. One call to my former employer -- who is the former chief of staff for that same governor (so they must know each other well) and I'm dead. So I know I'm dead man walking, just going into this interview. So I'll just ride with it and not really be concerned about what I say -- because I know I'm going to be nixed when the former employer calls are made anyway.

So who knows what wild and crazy thing I might say. Needless to say I'm not going to bother to prepare at all. It's just a good excuse to put on a suit for a day and remember what that was like.

Hi Wn! Hi All!

I'm back in the rigging for a 'nother evenin' of savagery. :-)

Note to self: When clenching a knife in your teeth as you swing across the deck... always put the knife sharp-edge OUT.

Maybe the Senior VP doesn't like the sitting governor.

I doubt that very much. The Senior VP is where he is today because that Governor gave him his big break. I knew when they gave me the name of the Sr. VP that it was over...once he finds out who I am.

I suppose I could go in disguise...now there's an idea...I'm really someone else with a different name, I just use that other name as a pen name...

I wonder where it came from cause pigs don't sweat.

Don't know if I'm right or not, but I always thought it came from the practice of roasting a pig on a spit... as the pig roasts, the fat in its flesh melts and begins oozing through the skin, looking very much like sweat.

Haven't heard anything from the interview 2 weeks ago. My start date in KC got moved up to last week from (I thought) end of Aug. I need to get stuff done on the house and the boss-man wants me to commute from NC to KS (4 10-hour days.) Do I quit now and look for a local job or stick it out and hope something comes along soon?

Yeah, and we all sit home with cattle prods trying to tell you how to do it!

Well, I certainly can't recommend unemployment...once your on it's nearly impossible to get off it seems. I haven't heard anything from my interview on the 3rd in Auburn...and I'm taking that as bad news (they'd at least call to let me know I was still in the running, if I was). My assumption now is nothing is going to come through -- and all of my actions are predicated on the assumption that I'll get no job that I apply for or interview for.

If I don't think and act that way, I'll get ahead of myself, and be that much more disappointed when nothing comes of anything.

So, given my theory, you should act as if nothing will come from that previous interview...and since I can tell you for sure that getting off unemployment seems impossible...I'd recommend not taking the plunge and quitting.

I've seen a pig roasting, so I know exactly what you mean! Since I use that expression all the time, it's nice to know it's origins.

Hmmm... cattle prods. No, I'm thinking that wouldn't be a good thing. Electric shocks are not conducive to the, er... ravishing process.

Now, handcuffs are another matter...

Believe me on this point: If any of the flags were going to get lost in the mail, it would've been mine--and it came.

Gloom. dispair, and agony untold.
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

You two are two young to understand that, but I thought it was funny.
