The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

She dropped almost $400 of quarters and had to pick them up.

Egads!

I would love some pancakes right now.... wish I would have come to the feed. :~D

I got some extra in the fridge. Not much bacon left tho.

I am contemplating a nap. Getting up at 5 will do that. I should be working in the yard, but I have the excuse that the wife needs to sleep and I need to be inside for Luke. 'course he could play in his sandbox, but it's really too hot for him to be out.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to be out there if it were cooler either.

Good morning! Or afternoon, as the case may be.

I understand your feelings about Hyde and Nemo in the movie. I didn't mind it as much, because the movie was true to their depiction in the comic book that the movie was based on. So, the comic book is the original fault!

By the way... was Nemo being Indian mentioned in 20,000 Leagues? It's been so long since I read that book that I don't remember. But, whenever I see reference to Nemo now, he's Indian. Just wondered if that was something from the book or from some other source.

About the identity of the villian... I knew it of course, having read the comic book. But, when it was revealed, most everyone in the audience let out an "OHHH!", which was kind of amusing to hear.

Well later today we're s'posed to go to King's Dominion. Gonna take a picnic lunch/dinner (whatever it turns out to be). We like the picnicing thing, 'cause it costs a fortune to eat inside the park.

Last time I bought dinner for Luke and me there, I spend almost $19.00 for two orders of chicken and fries, a milk and a Diet Coke.

How? The cam is turned off right now.

You going to be around tonight? The boss will be leaving at 5 today, so if there's not much to do, I'll have plenty of freedom to freep.

Huh! - It is funny when you turn the camera off because the last image just stays there.... We don't know that it is off line, it looks like you are really focused! But I did finally notice that you haven't moved in about an hour..... heh

Oh, are you a Duke fan?

The correct term is "Dookie."

Not many people know that Jules Verne wrote a sort-of sequel to "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" called "The Mysterious Island". It is in that book that Captain Nemo's history is revealed.

So I'll have to blame the comic book, huh? I thought it was a fascinating concept!

Reminds me of the scene at Bree when PJ made the audience think the hobbits had all been stabbed in their beds.... I enjoyed the audience ~GASPS~ for that one.... but it was a dirty trick for PJ to pull!

Whoopee! Thanks Bear! I was really hoping this one would be a hoot, but the only review I'd read so far was pretty negative. Victorian-era mythical adventurers is just too great a set up to see wasted on poor execution.

I'll probably go ahead and take at least my older son to go see it.

Discovered another movie this week, A Knight's Tale. Was prepared to not like it (on HBO at a hotel on a business trip), but found it both very funny and inspirational. The whole family watched it last night and loved it as well.

As long as I'm making recommendations, I also highly recommend the recent version of The Count of Monte Cristo. Very classy, great story. Richard Harris is amazing.

Am I the first to get the gift from the Renegade Chaplain? I got a Priority Mail package today, and he had sent a Certificate of Appreciation with MY NAME printed on it and signed by the base commander. But the best part was that he sent me an American Flag that had flown over the Base Headquarters at Kandahar Airfield!!! It even still had some desert dust on it!!!

I was SO EXCITED I just squealed!! I'm assuming all who contributed and whose names had been in the boxes will get them.

That was just such a wonderful gesture on the part of the Renegade Chaplain to show his appreciation for our puny (in the grand scheme of things) efforts on behalf of his gang at the Power House.
