The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Actually I have only watched SNL once. Maybe twice. What's an "ontamanure"?

Should I be afraid to ask why you're afraid to go to your mailbox?

I got it! - The Norwegian capital of Texas sure looks like a wholesome enough place! :~D Thanks for sending it! - Good to know if I end up lost in Texas there is a place I can go to find my roots.

I don't know your ex's aunt or anyone else with that family name. :~(

I think he got all flapped and left...

Well, He'd have to! - There is no getting around "You're gonna have to talk to the Manager". Good tip to know!

Well, I didn't figure you knew her. I tend to think she would have been dead long ago but don't know. It is interesting though, the coincidences in life.

I found photos of a trip my Grama took to Washington with a cousin back in the mid-80's. We have family there but Grama is the one that knew where. The photos were so lovely but she never wrote on any so I had no idea what the places were. I only knew by the dates and the people in the photos.

And saw a part of Texas I hadn't seen before

OH!!! Where did you go? Do I want to go there? Would it be a good bike ride?

If you have access to a scanner I might be able to tell where they are if they have identifiable landmarks in them and you are curious!

Oops. Now I see the answer to the previous question.

Probably the reason they knew to do that scene in the movie in Gruene is that when Luchenbach got overrun with tourists all the natives went to Gruene. And it didn't end up in a song for about 20 years.

I love it there. There are some awsome campgrounds nearby.

Now, I know I said I was fed up with family - but I really miss home and my friends.

I was kinda thinkin' about scanning some photos when I get caught up at work. I didn't get too many photos. I think I might get skinned alive if I ended up with all I wanted. So, I only have a couple.

What's an "ontamanure"?

Eddie Murphy used to do a parody of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, and called it 'Mr.Robinson's Neighborhood'. It usually had to do with living in a ghetto area and situations surrounding that. IIRC, once he had some stolen merchandise and was going to sell it. He told the 'kiddies' watching the show that he was going into business for himself selling these items, and to describe what he was doing said, "Can you say ontamanure?" (instead of entrepreneur). It was hilarious, and since then, whenever I've thought 'entrepreneur', I also think 'ontamanure'.

WN: Sorry about your loss; I lost my dad in '01, it takes time, but the emotions sneaking up on your get further apart.

Hello!

Thank you for the condolences. It's nice to meet you. Nice to have you here. Sorry I worked to the exclusion of the Hobbit Hole today and didn't seem to get in to say hello till probably after you're gone. When things settle down a little and I get caught up I will be here more!

There are extra mushrooms hiding in the breadbox.

I'm glad I volunteered to work in the kitchen with you at entmoot. I won't have to search all your usual hiding places like I do here. However, I have learned to always check behind things and in the oven first in the Hobbit Hole!!! LOL

Reminds me of some of our mountain landscapes here -- though more deciduous trees (birch from the bark -- one of my favorite trees, they look so cool in the winter with snow on their branches).

Perhaps that inspired them to book the theater again for a 'hecklers only' viewing.

It is, however, with a twinge that I would accede to watching LOTR go the way of Rocky Horror. Yikes...

That, and heckling The Fair Eowyn is *just* *plain* *wrong*.

They weren't *really* heckling Eowyn! Eowyn fears elves for the competition! (Arwen)

I agree - after a few hours with the group in that theater, I had about had enough!
