The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Heh....The Dummy was on when I got home. That episode scares the bejeepers out of my sister and we used to tease her about it all the time.

Dogs are funny that way. They're perfect in every conceivable way...except they don't like booze of any kind.

Go figure.

I'm back from my interview with the mayor. We were personable enough together. They're going to have me back next week for another interview.

He talked the predicted 3/4 of the time (or more), so being succinct wasn't much of a problem, getting a word in edgewise was more the challenge.

I'm kind of pooped...more from fighting the July 4 weekend traffic, hour and a half from Tacoma to Olympia with no accidents along the way.

The mayor was a personable fellow, and I think he was just chatting for the purpose of seeing if I was the kind of person he could "get on" with. He said they were only going to call back people who they were serious about, then he said they'd definitely be calling me back. So that's good, I suppose. I can't figure out how he could know that given that I didn't really get much chance to say all that much.

The job's one of those tough ones -- big job, lobbying for a city with the state and county governments, plenty of stressful situations and people to deal with. The pay's close to what I made before (at the top of the range). So if I do take it, knowing how big a job it is, they're going to have to pay top dollar. (If I'm going to have to worry about money, I'm not going to do it while working that hard!).

Truly a rat race. I'd probably live in Tacoma (my mom lives there and I know it...and it's close). If they really pursue me I'd take the job, I just don't know how long it'd be before I move on again???

I almost think I could handle Fife/Milton..... There are holes in the pavement there where grass grows! There are farms.....

How come there aren't any jobs (that pay what I want to make) where grass grows?

No one has to afford plasma HDTV's for their DVD's of The Two Towers there. And I don't think they worry much about paying for their twice-yearly teeth cleaning either.

It has a black "screw" like plug on the bottom that when you unscrew it, the glass bottle inside the carafe comes loose...What is the purpose of that screw-like plug????

I guess it's for just what you did, to remove the glass bottle. In case of breakage, you could remove the broken one and replace it with a new one. Does that sound right when you're looking at it?

Great buys, by the way!

Good evening all;

First off: happy b-day to Corin and SuziQ; Corin-you ain't stopped havin' 'em yet, I did, sometime back.

2JM: first the car then the coop, thought about lightening rods?

RMD: sorry bout the computer; thought about web-tv?

g'nad: so that's where you are, heading to the northland for cooler weather, eh? Should be a good fireworks show at the river. I worked on bridge job there in the late 70's.

Overtaxed; got your rucksack packed, cloak and walking staff ready?

Hair: we got Samantha's "medicine" as well, she taken to sniffing the air to see if any have been shot off recently before she decides if she really wants to leave the porch and go for a walk.

Hit a 100 downtown today, heat index - well, there was a vinyl car seat alert on the radio.
