Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Ruthy, when the Hobbit Hole first started, there were problems with Carton and has been off and on all this time. So to say we all had a great friendship here is not entirely accurate...I don't recall the last time I responded to one of Carton's posts. She left a negative impression on me back in the New Zealand Hobbit Hole, we never shaped a friendship.

I suspected and then realized that she had started in on Rosie over the spam business. To think that Rosie, a veteran that served this country, who has been through so much this last year...this young woman the "regular" Hole dwellers have been supporting since the death of her mother should be even spoken to disrespectfully by Carton was just more than I could stand for. And Carton does have an MO...stir up, offer empty apologies, never accept fault, "it was all a bit of fun". I've seen it over and over. She can speak vulgarly to me all she likes, I expect nothing less. And could care less about her thoughts on me. Gee, I haven't been so insulted since...hmmm...high school?

But I, for once, felt her treatment of Rosie deserved defending. I only regret it took me over 100K posts to finally do it...but I have a short fuse, you know.

I'm a good friend to those who are good friends to me. Carton never has been. Corin used to be, for my part. That ended weeks ago, when I asked him to "take back" what he said about my post about g'nad's baby. He basically told me what I could do with it. It was too much to ask of him. Apparently he felt he ought to be able to say whatever he wanted to on the thread, he had no concern for our friendship then.

Then to blame in on Becky...I barely knew Becky weeks ago, when I sat here with tears running down my face, reading Corin's response to my request. I realized I'd lost a friend, and wondered if I'd ever really had one. I also realized then that Entmoot was never gonna happen for me. But for all my short fuse, I kept it to myself...until last week, when I told Hair. That was LAST WEEK.

As it stands, I "nailed it" with carton, as one freepmail said and I don't take it back. My perceptions of others and spamming are my own and perhaps I should have kept it to myself (which I did for a long time, since this thread began, at least). But it's that pesky short fuse of mine...took months for me to say anything.

Sigh...I hope this is my last word.

I can't make an Irish Car Bomb, but I am famous in a small way for my Planter's Punches, which are good, and use 3 different types of rum. OTOH, I am small enough that I don't tolerate too many of these things.

Ruthy, I like that Nicaraguan rum "Fleur de Cana." Next choice is Bacardi, which I guess is Cuban in its bloodline (Did you notice that Luis [think that's his name] Bacardi has a fishing boat called the "Rum Bum?" I guess there's plenty of better stuff out there than those if you are a real connoisseur, which I am not.
