The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

I feel the same way. :(

Morning everyone....*yawn!*

Well, I got the old tiles, drywall, and insulation off of the back wall in the tub. It was very stinky.

I took the HH advice and sprayed all the moldy bits of the studs with bleach. By morning they were all white, well whitish-yellow.

Oh, when I took the insulation out I had a suspicion that I was going to find a surprise so I had my ant sprayer handy. I took out one of the strips of insulation and lo and behold a bunch of carpenter ants had made a nest in the insulation, what cheek! So I doused 'em good with the ant poison. By morning there must have been a few hundred little curled up ant bodies in the tub.

Anyway, last night I put in new insulation, got the new piece of drywall, actually it was cementboard, screwed onto the wall, and I taped and mudded the cementboard. Tonight I'll sand it down and apply another coat.

We bought some tile board to glue in place instead of going through the hassle of retiling.

Alyson is doing much better. This morning she only has two spots that are still really raw, but that butt balm is working wonderfully!

I should try praying during shots too. At the time, I try to sing and soothe whatever way I can because I cannot stand to hear them cry in pain or fear of any kind.

What a cool nurse! God bless her.

I've spent many a romantic evening in the garden with my hubby...squashing cutworms!

Are cutworms the same as night crawlers? Earthworms?

But we got served these rock hard stringy beans, with lots of green caterpillars scattered through them.

GAG!

My mom took one of my broccoli home one time and boiled it and a flood of worms came out of it.

CHOKE!

The pic of Steve with Puffy on his head helped to remove the mental picture of bug-ridden veggies! Thanks!

I need a jalapeno cornbread recipe! Ruthy, do you have one?

Sadly, I don't. I have a pretty low tolerance for spicy foods. But I bet Wneighbor has one!

Any more news on the job, OT?

Haven't heard anything from the interview last week. I think they're still interviewing this week.

All set to spend next week in KC for orientation. I'm hoping to meet OB while I'm there. Guess I'll have to call the real estate lady back.....*sigh*.

Reasons for not making progress on the home improvement front:

1. It keeps raining! Can't get anything done
2. I'm cheap and don't want to spend the money
3. Who are some good people to call?
4. I don't want to move!

I regret that there wasn't anything I could say to fix it.

You and me both, sis. It's not an easy thing for any of us to go through.

But all the while I sit and think
of times there were before,
I listen for returning feet
and voices at the door.

*sigh* Perfect timing.

I took the HH advice and sprayed all the moldy bits of the studs with bleach.

That's what we did before we replaced the bottom of the cabinet where our pipe leaked. I didn't see too much mold, but it had a mildewy smell...

By morning there must have been a few hundred little curled up ant bodies in the tub.

Doesn't that give you a nice warm fuzzy feeling?

.

.

Thank you for still pinging me...

Who's watching Miss Emily while you're off in KC?

I still have to find a dogsitter for one day this month. It'll probably end up being Dad...but I somehow doubt he'll be very happy about it. Can you imagine...he doesn't find her cute!
